What kind of ranking system ? If something like Guild Wars 2 has I'm hands down for that....being able to level up after the cap and actually making something very useful out of that is great
True story. Didn't mean to fly off the handle on you. Bit touchy subject I guess since I am currently going through it on my alt, even at ilvl81 now. Can't even get into a coil static, most dismiss based on ilvl (more then enough HP for twintania) for FC/LS that I've applied. It just makes my brain explode that people will take someone with a shiny vs. someone who blows people out of the water when it comes to skill/dps/whatever, and is working on gear (sigh RNG).
I agree with LalaRu, you really gotta grab onto the people you know aren't terrible.
This is my thought on the matter. You can get ilvl 90 without ever stepping foot in a raid zone. Unless you count the hard modes. So equating ilvl to skill is a bad idea to begin with. Only 2 things I'd take as proof of skill when it comes to "what they person is wearing" would be Ifrit drops (aka bracer or primal weapons) or T5 drops.

While equating ilvl to skill will always be bad we should at least make it so the gear check that ilvl is supposed to accomplish is as accurate as can be.

Ilv is crap, it pretty much reflects your luck in coil and other Random generators.
How about ranking system according to accomplishments?
For example, there should be multiple ranking categories...
Battle Rank: stuff like Killing all Primal extremes, finishing coil etc.
Dungeon Rank: Finishing hard dungeons.
Crafting Rank: According to hard items created.
Quest Rank: Finished quests that are considered difficult and long.
Class Rank: Certain feats done on that job.(tanking, healing, etc)
This way people can decide what Ranked player needed for their current activity. I rather for example, Pick someone who has High Quest Rank over someone with High Battle Rank for a quest that may take time.

Goodbye, Final Fantasy...
Someone in my static mentioned that some PF groups were checking your lodestone profile for accomplishments/evidence of clearing (talk about due diligence...). I guess that's one way of handling it. I am not sure how I feel about that though. I have played with some really competent players in Titan HM/EX who had not cleared it simply because they could never find a party that was competent. They never ate a bomb/ls once we grouped. Still, I suppose the accomplishment at least says something more than iLvl..
Server: Sargatanas || Main Job: Scholar || Chocobo: Bonchon
I've made a post pertaining to a potential PVE rank system a few weeks back, however I wanted to see the communities thoughts before projecting my system again; feel free to go through my posts and see.
That being said, I've out parsed many dps who were at least 10 iLvs above my own; iLv has very little to do with skill or the rate of success a of group will have. A good player using i75 gear vs i90 will show a large bit if difference in dps, however a great iLv 75 vs a poor iLv90 player will show just as much of a difference, however favoring the i75.
Yesterday I was kicked from a turn 1 party as an ilv72 PLD alt-character because if my iLv, with later that night clearing turn 5 with the exact same gear. I wonder if my now Allagan blade ilv74 PLD will still struggle even getting into Garuda Ex parties? The likelihood is no, at least without coercing the leader otherwise first.
Lets be perfectly honest in this situation you went in with a farm group and likely were playing the role of dk stun bot. I actual progression group would never survive with a pld in the 70s no matter his skill level.Yesterday I was kicked from a turn 1 party as an ilv72 PLD alt-character because if my iLv, with later that night clearing turn 5 with the exact same gear. I wonder if my now Allagan blade ilv74 PLD will still struggle even getting into Garuda Ex parties? The likelihood is no, at least without coercing the leader otherwise first.
I agree with your point and do think for turn 1 they were being idiots. But T5 no random group would take someone in the low 70s for any role let alone the tank.
