What are the chances of ever getting similar sized massive zones/maps that 1.0 had?

I've really been enjoying 2.0, it's a good game that made up for a LOT of the flaws with combat/crafting/gameplay that the original one did wrong.

But there's one thing where 1.0 will absolutely blow 2.0 out of the water, and that's with massive stretched out explorable lands, islands connected through bridges, hidden beaches, impressive tunnel systems and many MANY hidden place that people just love visiting or exploring. The maps were breathtaking, with thousands of tiny little details and interesting sights and just looking around on Youtube for old FFXIV footage fills me with grief a little for what we lost.

Comparingly now all we have is these tiny fragments of land, most of which are nothing more than a linear path with on each side of it's road a few feet of land so you dont just walk across a road with nothing next to it. Two minutes of being in a zone and you've pretty much seen all there's to it. Sure, it looks a little more lively, but it just doesnt compare to the feeling of exploration we once had. Sure, we can jump now, but there's nothing to jump to, jump over or jump from :/ Even towns could have easily been one zone like we had in the past.

I mean, i have 13 Lv.50 jobs now. I've seen pretty much all there is to see in this game already many times over and it's starting to make me realize just how tiny everything is. And i'm sure many people out there are the same. Let me roam the world for hours, exploring every nook and cranny of the world, let me have zones where i can go in all directions instead of basicly following an alley from A to B.

What are the chances we'll ever get similar sized world maps or zones that rival those of the days of 1.0?

Agreed, everything is tiny and to make matters worse i'm always at a loading screen, even in dungeons. Feels like i'm playing some ps2 game.

Honestly? Never. 1.0's Landscape was a lot of the same stuff copied and pasted everywhere. The more detail you have in an area AND have it be large, you really need a powerful system to handle it.

The whole copy/paste QQ was hugely overblown by those on a mission to diss the game, 1.0's world was a lot more enjoyable for its seamlessness where you could go across an entire country without zone lines.

2.0's world may be more beautiful .. though I much, MUCH prefer 1.0's Coerthas and Mor Dhona, especially the latter which had a whole lot more atmosphere in 1.0 than in 2.0 IMO .. but it's so claustrophobic.

It wasn't overblown. I wasn't bothered with it myself, but it was VERY apparent. Also there were most certainly zone lines, and I don't mean between the Shroud and Thanalan for example. They had long, thin paths between each section so you didn't notice the loading, but it was still there. But the point of the comment is they had to simplify the landscape like that to make it work somewhat decently.

Here's a portion of the Coerthas map from 1.0: http://img2.sankakucomplex.com/wp-co...copy-paste.jpg

Sankaku Complex doesnt allow for hotlinking, you can view it here though http://i44.servimg.com/u/f44/16/84/76/05/coerth10.jpg

No idea where the snow came from in 2.0 however. It used to be amazing mountains with dark green pine forests.

The answer to this will come soon enough. Some of the quests for the area already talk about the perpetual winter (ala Frozen) that has fallen on the area over the last 5 years. I do look forward to that. May have something to do with the crystal tower, or other changes as that was one of the areas heavily affected by the attacks in 1.0.

I am also not sure if this is the original dragonhead rebuilt in a more military style, or a relocated dragonhead.

It will be interesting to see if that gets answered as well.

One of the unique things in this game is when they ended 1.0 and started 2.0, they created a story and quest line that covers it.

As far as the zone sizes, I was in agreement during the survey that I would rather have more detail over giant expanse. The odds of getting those giant expanses back are slim to none. However if PS3 is ever dropped i would not put it past them to have newer larger zones. Until then don't expect it.

Though i wouldnt say the copy and pasting was very apparant. The only time i've noticed it was in the old La Noscea with certain tunnels/caves. You'd find they have a similar layout here and there, i cant name single other thing that was "apparent" as a copy/paste. I'm sure there -were- more, but you'd have to really try and nitpick in order to find them. It truly was overblown.

    1.0 world > 2.0 world
I noticed it plenty in La Noscea, even outside of caves. You would see the same hill 2-3 times easily.

I'll just leave this here. No explanation necessary.

Except all of the little ridges, which you couldn't even jump over.
