DF and RDF are getting a lot better lately, but the wait time for DD/ Dps is still quite long. If you are now to the dungeon, just be upfront with your group, you will do just fine.

So many people make mistakes and nobody is perfect, you can't do anything that people won't have seen before. Also announcing that you are new to an instance helps manage people's expectations. It's like putting a learners thingy on a car. Most people should be understanding.
Just use it, and explain you are new ...
Nice People will aid you through it, ...
If they are not so nice people, enjoy ruining their run, till you get kicked, cause the deserve it ^^ ... nah just kidding.
Like in Real-Life, trying new stuff mostly results in fun, and that´s the main thing of playing a video game at all! =)
I wish you a nice grp and a good first run.
Never a mind was changed on an internet board, no matter how good your arguments are...

Totally agree with everyone. Simply type "hey this is my first time here, if I'm doing something wrong, let me know!" I know I have spent many dungeons typing out quick explanations to fights for new players. Makes things easier for the group.
Also just about every dungeon has full run throughs or boss fight mechanics on Youtube. (would definitely suggest them if you are wanting to tank, dps...not really needed)
As a dps the load is lighter for you, if you get a tank that marks...follow their marks. If not just try to focus on their target.
Also as a DPS, you will experience high queue times. If you are playing at non peak hours, could be 15-45 minutes easy.
Good Luck and HAVE FUN! It's a game.

When I was new I was nervous to queue for Duty Finder as well. I'd never been a healer in an MMO, and I was worried I was going to suck and get yelled at.
But the early dungeons are surprisingly easy. They made them very straightforward for new MMO players, so you should have no trouble acclimating as someone who's played MMOs before. You'll probably end up running them a few times just to get the groove of how ARR structures its dungeons. (Also, they're a good source of experience in the low levels.)
Just make sure the tank pulls threat/aggro first before starting your attacks and you'll be good to go, and make sure you keep your pet on you and not running ahead (you should hotbar the "Heel" command from the Pet Commands.)
I wish you the best! I think you'll do totally fine.
Also - DPS queue times can be high unless you're queueing with a Tank or Healer already in a party with you. So just be prepared for a wait. Run around and do other content (Look for some FATEs or just do standard quests. I would avoid doing Levequests while queueing, as abandoning them uses your Leve allowances.) while the duty finder is pinging for members. You'll get a pop up window when a party is formed that will allow you to commence the dungeon.

In addition to Heel remember to also set your Emerald Carbunkle to "Obey" to prevent it from using Backdraft, its knockback move, otherwise it may mess-up positioning for the tank and any melee DPS.
For the same reason I'd avoid summoning Topaz Carbunkle unless your tank is an idiot/AFK/stuck auto-running into a corner/etc. At lower levels it is way too good at ripping hate off under-geared tanks.
I missed over nine thousand shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot. I've failed over and over again in my life.
And that is why I succeed.

Failure is a part of success, no matter how hard some people try to deny it. It's like asking for water that's not wet.

If you're like me and you're hesitant because you spend a lot of time reading horror stories here or on reddit about arsehole players, remember that the worst situations produce the loudest complaints. Very few people will post online about the excellent experience they had with that nice tank from another server who taught them how to use limit break and how to double their damage output by using a better rotation. Or that awesome healer who taught them how to mark targets and how to keep hate on multiple mobs who just happened to be on their server and is now on their friends list.
These people exist and (in my limited experience) there are far more of them then there are arsehole players.

Generally, but not always though. When I ran Sastasha the first time, I was Level 19, so I had to be synced down one level. Same thing with when I ran Stone Vigil for the first time - I leveled to 45 just to get most of my AF gear.
