    Nervous to use Duty Finder

So, I started playing this game a couple of days ago and I've been putting off having to use Duty Finder, to be honest.
It's not that I hate partying up with people or anything, I played quite some MMOs in the past, so it's not like I'm a complete greenhorn either.
It's just that I'm kinda nervous to actually do a dungeon for the first time >.< I'm afraid I screw up and get flamed at and stuff, even though I know I prolly shouldn't care about that >.<

Anyone able to give some advice? Anything would be appreciated, really

You might get flamed but it won't be your fault, some people just join DF to troll so don't be surprised if you happen upon a lively one. You may find you end up with a load of lvl 50s synced down doing their daily roulettes. They will all get a message saying there is someone new, they just won't know who it is. Don't be scared to pipe up and say you're new.

Biggest things for you will be have the blue pet and make sure the pet ability heel is easily accessible... Sastasha has the boss run off a few times to the next area, your pet will try to follow him and aggro everything it passes! I always giggle when it happens but some loose their temper.

    Good luck ^^

utilize the DF, let people know you are new, even though when you enter the dungeon it will include a notice "one or more players are new to this dungeon."
Ask for advice if you are unsure on anything, such as some dungeon final bosses require more than a simple engage and kill method

Although higher level dungeons can get fairly technical, the earliest dungeons are very basic. Your class, arcanist, is also defaulted as a dps class and consequently is not in the limelight or as crucial for party success. If you have any dungeon experience with an MMO in the last 10 years, it will be instantly familiar. Tanking can be tricky because the enmity generation is slightly different from other games for tanks, but you should not have any problems. Just remember to give the tank time to turn all the mobs red before you begin dps-ing or healing and you shouldn't catch any flak.

Practically speaking however, it is very possible for you to heal the first 3 dungeons if the healer is not doing their job. Doing so will probably earn you several commendations.

Also, be ready to use the "heel" command on your pet to pull it back to you after each fight. This will prevent the pet from going out and pulling mobs you don't intend.

Lastly, if you do make mistakes here, don't worry too much about it. You will progress and learn very quickly at any rate, to the point where those past experiences simply become funny stories.

I'd like to echo what Anova stated - the first dungeon, Sastasha Seagrot especially is designed in such a way as to be pretty easy on a new player, making it pretty much a training dungeon of sorts. Of course it can still be tricky if you're not paying attention/not playing your role, but it still gives you a lot of leeway in making mistakes. Don't worry though, we all were new at this once, so you're not alone in feeling anxious about it.

While I wasn't nervous to use DF for the first time last night (new player like you), I was a little disappointed in the fact that it didn't actually work for me the first time. I queued up as a DPS and I waited the recommended 8 minutes. Nothing came up so I went on my way doing quests while still queued. Another 15 minutes passed and I got a message that someone dropped and it was finding another member. I checked and the group was short 1 member. So, I waited some more until I got that message again. This time when I checked, I was alone. I gave up after 30 minutes or so. I'll try again tonight...

For a DPS the duty finder can take awhile.Once you get the "member withdrew" message you are in!It usually only takes a minute to find a new member.Once you start getting that message, just hang in a little longer and you should get in.

There are a few bad apples out there, but most players are not like that. As an Arcanist, keep carby alive and on Obey (although Sic can be used briefly for a quick knock back if necessary).

Don't be afraid to use the Duty Finder. People like to come on the forums and whine about 'this terrible player' they got paired up with, but they fail to mention the dozens of smooth runs they got in as well. I use it every day and 90+% of the people are either good or willing to learn.

As for doing your first dungeon, well as a damage dealer, your role is not too key. If you make a mistake, it likely won't even get noticed. As long as you do the basic stuff right (not pulling foes before the tank, attacking according to the tanks numbers, etc.), you'll be fine.

As for the mechanics, don't be afraid to let the others know that it's your first time and that you are willing to listen to any advice they have for you. I've found that playing with totally random people is the best way to learn new things, strategies and mechanics about the game. As long as you are open to trying new things out.

So don't worry too much about it and dive in!
