    So, what's happened here?

    Hey folks!

I started playing FFIV back in August, but stopped at the end of September because I didn't have time when I got back in classes. But now I'm back! Well, when Spring break hits in a few weeks.

I was wondering, what has happened since I've been gone? Any big overall changes? Maybe to the interface, new mechanics, etc. I'm very excited to return, but I haven't been able to find any recap of what is going on in the past five months.

To give a bit more context, I ended my journey only at level 36. So I never actually got to end game content. So not only am I curious about any big things (patches, big content changes), but how does end-game feel after these five months? Is it still interesting? How is it structured (eg. too easy? high time/grind commitment? etc)?

What about leveling? Are there any significant changes to the ways folks level now? Was it ever determined if there's a "preferred" way to progress at a respectable pace?

Thank you all for the help!

For the changes to leveling, follow this:

Duty Roulette > Dungeon Run > FATE

For you - you won't notice a ton of crazy changes to the game, since you we're level 50 pre-2.1. They made some pretty serious additions and changes in 2.1, and 2.2 is slated to come out in a little less than a month by most people's estimates. The information here (aside from the 1st responders sarcastic bull-crap that is really not helpful) is pretty good - and those links are awesome.

My best advice would be log in and have some fun! See if you can connect with a FC that is decent sized but also willing to help out and teach you things, as there will be a lot to catch up on!

RE: Is end-game fun - IMO, yes. There are some people saying there isn't enough to do, but I play probably 20-30 hours/week with 2 characters, and I am just now doing crafting and the like. There is a good amount of stuff to do but if you are going to be playing 40-60 hours/week you might run out of stuff to do in about a month or 2 if you only play one job/one character.

End game is very sparse in content, but 1 new extreme mode primal and 4 new bosses are being added to Coil this upcoming month. As it stands there are 3 hard more primals, 3 extreme mode primals, and 4 bosses in Coil... all can be done in around 1-3 hours one night a week. Meaning a lot of raiders do not log in much more than that. The only fights that take a bit of time to learn are Turn 5 (twintania) and Extreme Primal Titan. The rest are easy to master and require very little time to learn.

Beastman dailies have long since been maxed out and the gil rewards from them is not very substantial. There are two factions, Sylph and Amalji (sp?)

Leveling... if you are a tank or healer then spamming dungeons now is a very quick way to level. If you are dps then your queues are going to be a good bit longer and you may want to fate grind/do levequests in between queues.

I kind of want to disclaim this - I'm not saying its not true for some people, but for others it is very different than described. Full disclosure I do T1-T4 every Monday night in about 1hr 10min as a raid leader for my FC. It took us about 6 weeks to master that run through Coil, and we just started working on EX primals last week (we raid 2-3 nights/week for 2 hours).

The members of my Coil team are a good mix between very skilled and... less skilled. The only people capable of clearing Coil1-5 and all 3 EX modes in under 2 hours in one night are those with access to very well geared jobs and at least 7 friends who can do it with them with very well geared jobs.

There is plenty to do in end-game for a fresh 50. Grind Philo/myth, see all 5 level 50 4-man dungeons, get your Relic by beating the HM primals, start on Coil of Bahamut with a static group or PUGs, do EX mode primals, get all of your cross-class skills, Ultima Weapon HM for i80 necklaces/rings, treasure maps with friends, faction grinding for the beastman quests.

I feel like this above response was speaking about there being not a whole lot to do for someone who has been playing very actively for the past 7 months, which does have a sizable nugget of truth to it, but as a fresh 50 you should have a nice big chunk of content to consume that IMO is very much worth your subscription fee : D
