Okay, in hindsight I admit that was something of an exaggeration on my part, so I'm sorry for wording it like that. But the point is, fighting a higher level mob does not give extra exp you wouldn't otherwise get for fighting an enemy around your own level, which is how exp parties were viable in the first place in FFXI.

Really you're just better off doing a levequest or a FATE than bothering fighting random enemies, as the FATEs/leves give you an exp boost for doing it - it's not the individual enemies that are the point of fighting but the exp bonus at the end.

I'm not sure how it is now.. but my guild has actually done this, in the current world. There are certain camps where it is possible, and it is absolutely a viable leveling option. I didn't participate when my guild did it, as I don't enjoy that.. but they did gain exp at a level that was equal, if not a bit better, than what others were getting fate grinding at that time. Just like in the FFXI world though, some camps are better for this than others because of mob density, and it is important to keep a chain going. Here's a reddit thread to get you going:

Good luck finding people to do it with you.

Thank you Sunarie that is the most contribution to the thread that i have seen posted. im not sure how long ago this was but last i remember fighting higher lvl mobs dident really give you a exp boost like it did in ffxi like say going to qufim at lvl 20 and fighting worms. im not saying that they are going to up the exp of all the mobs but maby bring back a boost like if we are to kill a mob 5-10 lvls higher then us give us just a bit of a jump in exp that way we arent totaly reliant on the chain i havent totaly read all the reddit thread but im defenitly going to bookmark that thread and read into it alot more i am verry thankfull for the post and as soon as i get my first paycheck and can reactivate my acount im defentitly testing this out cause if i can lvl the old way that is the way i would prefer and maby if people actualy get out there and do it anyway maby they will give us the lill bit of a bost for killing higher lvl this may have allready been done but i have been off for a lill bit due to losing my job and not being able to aford it if i am just blowing smoke and they have allready done this tell me so that way i can shut the fuck up. again thank you verry much and have a wonderfull day and kill some random mob for me in 14

And the exp you get from a mob that's ten-twenty levels higher than you is just the same as the exp you get for a mob that's ten levels below you.

Hence, although nothing is indeed stopping you from doing an old-school FFXI style exp party, it's not worth it really in the long run, even assuming you can find people willing to do that - especially when it's easier to just do FATEs for the same exp and get a bonus at the end too.
I have to check but I dont think that is true.

I don't miss logging into ffxi, waiting in one spot for 3+ hours trying to find a group, being unsuccessful, then logging out because I have to sleep/go to work. Rinse and repeat the next day, sometimes actually finding a group after 2 hours, to only grind for maybe 30 minutes or an hour.

    THAT'S JUST ME, THOUGH...

if exping on mobs equaled the instanced exp i would do it, but it doesn't.
rerunning the same instance gets really tiring and i don't know if its just me but it feels like i'm confined into a little box when all i do are instances

i like to be out in the world and kill mobs like the OP
but the way the game is, you can't pull mobs without linking and the xp sucks compared to dungeons

You mean old way of leveling where people have to learn their jobs, their party members play style, coordination and each of their skills in order to be efficient?

Yeah, good luck feeding that to these new generation.

We like seeing level 50brd asking whether he knows what ballad is used for.

lol yea exactly synapse that is something i have even said is the old style partys would force people to learn how to play there jobs and even how to play to best suit there party members if you where to keep the same group going for a long time and go on to do high lvl dungeons that are 8mand and what not

Honestly what is the difference from running dungeons for xp and camping having a puller bring mobs to you? I found it very boring sitting in the same spot for hours, hence the reason I play Final Fantasy 14.
