Questions about armor models in the game

I had wanted to play as a highlander but I noticed even from the starting set of clothes, everything flares way out at the hips. It makes the char look like he has a huge behind. I remember in beta, that I leveled to 10 wearing no shirt at all because everything gave me a pear shape or worse. My quests rewarded me with this huge ugly salmon colored tunic that looked five sizes too big. I didn't know if I was supposed to be saving the world or watching Bridget Jones Diary with a quart of ice cream.

So I just ended up making a Thundercat char now that I have actually bought the game.

Ok, setup for the question is over. My question is, will all highlands males look like this in all armor throughout the game? All of their armor models less form fitting and more "I really need more pilates"?

I ended up going Thundercat mainly because he retrained a mostly normal body shape when viewing the artifact job armors in the char creator.

Going to be honest with you and let you know. MOST of the armor in this game is pretty damn ugly. Vanity system is coming out soon so that will help a bit but as you level just grit your teeth and bare with it man. Lucky you are not playing a tank because that gear is the worst that i have had so far haha.

I was actually bored with Pugilist and planned to switch to Guardian.

I had been a thaum in beta. But I quickly got bored with every skill having the exact same casting animation.

Another quick question while I already have a post. Me and my friends ended up on Zalera. Is it a dead server? I played from 6pm to 1am est Sunday night and I only saw maybe a dozen people. And the only messages I saw in my chat window was from gold sellers.

In contrast I made a char on Levitathon at about 1:30am and I saw over a dozen people in the first minute I was there. If we are actually on a dead server, now would probably be the best time to change I would think.

Some of the armor is more form-fitting. If you really want to show off your abs, you can get Colliseum gear and use it once the vanity system comes out. Some armor is frumpy and dumpy, some isn't. Just depends on the armor.

If you go onto the Lodestone character search, you can select Highlander Hyur and get a whole lot of examples of different armor and how it looks on them.

Highlanders look awesome in later armor, especially in tank armor and stuff. Most early gear just looks bad no matter what race you are.

I wouldn't use the starting cities and zones as a metric of how crowded a server is. Most players on the newer servers probably have housing and are spending most of their time there. Many people will not normally communicate outside of their Linkshells or Free Companies, either. I dunno how else to tell how populated a server is other than spending a week or so in it and getting a feel for how many people are in the mid to high level areas.

I'm not sure about crafting or other related content, but you can probably get a feel for what endgame is like by visiting one of two quest hubs: Revenants Toll and Wineport. Conveniently, you will also see endgame armor models this way

Wineport is probably the easier hub to reach, with the caveat that it is more full early in the week and dies down by the weekend. To travel there, travel to Limsa Lominsa -East-> Middle La Noscea -NorthEast-> Wineport. This is the entry point for the last endgame dungeon, Coil of Bahamut. Most players will be advertising their PF, sending shouts, or otherwise chatting while they wait.

Revenants Toll is the other hub but it requires you to sneak past or outrun lv.40 monsters. It's not ideal unless you have a chocobo. This is the best place to see the most varied armor models though. To travel there, start from Old Gridania -West-> North Shroud -NorthWest-> Coerthas -Southwest-> Revenants Toll. Don't be afraid to ask a player to show off their vanity pieces either. Most will do it if even without you asking anyway.

Some servers have different times when they are active. As someone on Leviathan, I think Leviathan has a very active EST population. The PST on the other hand is actually quite a bit lower and you really feel it past midnight EST. Again, check the endgame hubs for a week to note any specific dates and times when they are active. Just make a character in limsa lominsa on a prospective server and check wineport once a day if you want to be thorough. From what I remember about the census though, Zalera is a less active server compared to Leviathan. It has been 4 months since then though, so things may have changed.

I honestly thought that the devs made the really low-level armor (1-20 range) look ridiculous on purpose. I started as a MRD and the second piece of body armor I got was a pink dress, for crying out loud. I just assumed that you wouldn't get to wear the awesome stuff until you got to level 30. I was very happy with my Cavalry set while I had it.

So yeah, just finished my level 10 Gladiator quest. My reward? A cricket bat, a wok and some bright red thigh high boots.

    The horror....the horror.

That is only the first of many cricket bats. Steel yourself.

(It could be worse, though. At least tanks don't have to face the Subligar sets).
