I was thinking about this the other day, although I was was hoping someone would put a little more thought into the topic. Devs probably aren't going to read or respond to a bunch of players simply bitching.

The DPS "dancing" really isn't that bad. Having to use certain skills in specific places (rear/flank) makes things more interesting than just pressing buttons.

The real problem is that XIV is really is nothing but a twitchy QTE game that punishes people with less than perfect reaction times. Unfairly at times too I might add. 'Ohh you didn't move out of the way instantly? Well here's 6k of damage'

The game places so much emphasis on dodging red circles that it just becomes stressful and not fun. It seems like all it takes is one person to miss a dodge or run the wrong way to make a fight go bad. Which just makes other players loose their temper. You get those who rage quit or someone with a elitist attitude who kicks you out of the party.

I think people are biased. I mean there are only 3 fights IMO where a single fail dodge, where you have to react fast can be the instant wiping reason. Titan HM and EM, Coil 2 if lasers oneshot you. Both Ifrits allow you to eat a plume or an eruption or a swipe, even if u die it is easy recoverable. Garuda as well. All other fights you have either plenty of time to dodge, or failing a dodge is not that heavily that it can't be recovered from. Every group should be able to handle unexpected situations to a certain limit.

I agree that it's not a bad thing. Given the choice between standing still while spamming buttons and timing skills/cast times with phases of movement I'd choose the latter every time.

As for it being unfair... it's a little harder to say. Is Titan HM unfair? Yes and no. If you don't know plumes are coming up the window to avoid it is pretty tight, and that's not even including latency issues. However, his entire rotation is predictable, so in reality there is no reason to get hit by plumes because you can start moving out of them before he even begins casting it.

I'd say the only strong point the OP has really made is that it's so easy to over gear most of the content and trivialize a lot of the other mechanics of encounters. For example, it's common place to over gear Turn 2 and reduce the entire fight to a tank and spank even though the fight has a lot of mechanics that rely on party-wide coordination. I wonder if the throttling, or removal, of tome gear would encourage people to learn their class a bit.

Do you want to play an MMO where the only two interesting mechanics are ilvl and dancing????? How much dancing is enough? Aren't there other mechanics you can imagine... or expect from SE???

I actually agree, that there should be dancing in many/most instances. I don't think the entire game should be a simple gearcheck and dance check... there need to be MORE other interesting mechanics.

As said, do Coil. Learn 2 read, stop trolling now or quit game, thank you. There is not much dancing anyway.

So, to summarize, spamming stuns every second of a fight from 80%->0% is good mechanics, but having to actually time your stuns and silences doesn't count as interesting mechanics.

    Glad we cleared that up.

I agree. I was astonished by the amount of dancing this game requires in its boss fights. My connection is not always solid, and quite BLUNTLY, Squenix' servers are not always solid. Their positioning system is STILL crap (even after being improved) for them to rely on positioning SO HEAVILY. Jinking out of templates on the ground over and over is really lazy development and I'd like to see more fights that involve tactical movement instead of just 'well, the server stopped sending packets for a second, so I'm dead' or 'well, the position of my corpse is 10 yards outside the area of effect - HOW DID I DIE?'.

I wouldn't mind more mechanics like the fight at the end of Castrum Meridianum. Just... with something that actually required effort to kill. Or maybe a dungeon that the boss basically created a red light green light game and if you moved/attacked during a red light phase you get insta killed?

Far too much dancing, not nearly enough prancing.
