It's the habit of most people I've run into to say, "This isn't FFXI" with regards to the naming of new classes. However, the way I see it, this is a Final Fantasy title, and the reason most of us return to the franchise is there is a longstanding connection with the 'jobs' we enjoyed in past titles.
That being said, I don't give much stock to the argument that this game would be any less its own entity if the demand for our favorite classes being revisited. There's honestly not much out there that hasn't been done before, in one respect or another, no matter what RPG style game you come from. "This isn't FFXI"? Yeah, well, FFXI wasn't FF tactics, but the classes were there. We know what we like.
All the above to finally address the post directly. DRK or something similar(Black knight, Dragon knight, w/e) definitely seems like a possiblity, and I would love to see it It's just not going to feel quite like DRK without a scythe. I know tons of people, those anxiously awaiting PS3 release and current players alike, who will be sorely disappointed without a scythe if such a class arises.
The weapon system is a redo in my opinion anyway. If GLD, of all classes, can use daggers, then surely they can manage to throw a GS and a SCY in there.
