What exactly determines amount of HP healed?

Hi guys, just something out of curiosity.

I've noticed that my PLD has a healing magic potency of 200 while my BLM has 185.

However, my PLD use Cure for about 230HP heal, while my BLM's Physick does for 430HP

Understand that determination affects healing but it shouldn't be that significant right? BTW both of them are at about 270 DET right now.

    Any clues?

The largest contributor to this phenomenon is the Magic Damage on your weapon, or lack there of. Magic Damage goes into calculating your healing output, but melee classes do not have Magic Damage on their weapons. Basically, your PLD is short by the equivalent of between 236 and 378 Mind (depending on your weapon and who you believe when it comes to MD/MND equivalencies).

Oh my, how could I have forgotten about weapon. *hides in shame*

Had a discussion with my raid team earlier and none remembers it's magic damage >.>

An approximated formula that I found in some WHM healing spreadsheet looks something like this:

    (Potency/300) x (((0.0114*MND + 0.00145xDTR + 0.3736) x Magic Damage) + (0.21xMND) + (0.11xDTR) + (0.00011316xMNDxDTR))

I have tested this with my WHM in different gear configurations and it seems to be close enough. It obviously isn't the actual formula used in game but it seems to give about the same results as seen in-game.

What I've wanted to know is if Determination affects heals given or heals received. The description of the stat doesn't make that clear. Although the former is what most would probably assume, the stat seems to affect a whole bunch of things and I think it's dangerous to assume such a thing >_>

Your assumption is correct. It affects heals you cast. It's easy to test. Just equip something with lots of DET+ on it, go cast cure on someone a bunch of times, then take off said piece and repeat. The difference is noticeable to the naked eye.

Something also worth mentioning is that for whatever reason, THM has a Magick and Mend trait which boosts healing potency as well as damage. ACN and CNJ have Maim and Mend which is essentially the same thing, but THM's is what allows for the astral fire/umbral ice stacking.
