Code's region is inapplicable

My friend from England gifted me FFXIV on steam. When I started up the game, Steam gave me a code to use for activating my first month. The code does not work because it is not of my region (United States).

I am currently face-palming about this. My friend basically wasted 10 Pounds (Worth A LOT more than 10 dollars) if there is no way this can be solved. Please help.

I'm guessing that the code that your friend was given was for EU. When you're selecting to create your account, are you selecting North America (NA) or EU?

My account is North American. The code seems to be European.

Theres a warning for that in the steam store. "The PAL version of FINAL FANTASY® XIV: A Realm Reborn™ will require a European & other Regions Square Enix Account to play."

Maybe you could make a European account and play with it?

There's the same message on my version of Steam, only it says that a NA account is required for the NA version.Sounds like he'll have to make a new account.
