    Quest-based progression?

How does quest-based progression work in a game where players level multiple classes?

To accommodate the wealth of SP needed, will this mean that all the quests will be mass-produced drivel? Quantity over quality, as it were?

Will the quests have voice-overs or will they be forgettable fetch-quests? I ask only because logic dictates that these quests may in fact be just as monotonous as guildleves. So, of this I ask you, is it really the better option?

I hate guildleves as much as the next person, but perhaps story-driven methods of advancement are even worse if the story is terrible. Nobody likes to read a bad novel. Likewise, nobody likes to do laps around quest hubs filled with inane, skippable dialogue.

I don't mean to complain, but if there is absolutely no motivation for doing these quests outside of levelling up, then they will probably be thought of in the same way as guildleves presently are (boring).

To make the game less grindy, you don't just throw in a quest-grind.

I just hope that one day we get features like the player-run companies, and more zones to explore, things that we actually WANT to do, instead of things we HAVE to do.

To make a proper complaint, you need to actually let them implement the thing.

    lolspeculations.

Well it wasn't so much a lolspeculation as an estimated guess. So far the side-quests leave a lot to be desired, and the "go here do this" quests seem to be the best ones on offer at the moment. So excuse me for expecting nothing more than that.

Just because it is a once-in-a-lifetime quest as opposed to a repeatable guildleves doesnt necessarily mean it will be more engaging. Having lots of monotonous quests may not lend itself to a more enriching gameplay experience than guildleves if the guiding philosophy behind their creation is the same.

What we need is diversity and fun. A sidequest doesnt guarantee that.

you do the same x amount of quests (they will most likely be repeatable) over and over again on each class? if you don't like it, too bad.

I'll also leave this here from the other thread based on the fact that questing will not be the ONLY way to XP.

If they are talking about implementing XP chains then yes that should be the general idea. Players would be able to:

    a) get a light/full party together and run an instance, behest or find a mob grinding camp to get XP. The incentive to do this is that the faster you kill, the more XP bonus you get.

    b) solo leves for XP or do them in a party to complete them faster. Remember Yoshida said REDUCTION of bonus not REMOVAL. The XP will not be as great as before but I doubt it will be so drastically reduced that leves will never be worth your time.

    c) pickup sidequests or (hopefully daily/repeatable) quests at frontier hubs for XP. They may also optimize some for party play.

    Sit down,
    Take a cup of tea,
    Enjoy your cookies,
    Wait until they implement it.

We've never tried a Quest-based Progression with changeable classes, so we can't say Anything on that before we even try that.
Just take the concept of Eden Eternal as reference for now.

I'm really just expecting the new quests to be the same as guild leves, except from NPCs. Basically take the side quests we have, multiply those with little variations, spread them all over Eorzea and that's what we're gonna get I think.

The new side quests will probably have a nice EXP bonus, but I kind of doubt they'll become the main form of leveling (outside of some repeatable ones perhaps). Think of it more as an incentive to go out and just do stuff. With an EXP bonus you don't feel like you're wasting time doing a quest that doesn't have a reward that you'd normally want.

Well, if you look at the whole game, there is one irremovable base line to exp growth; which is killing the open world monsters. Everything else added the game is somewhat of a supplement to this and will most likely be used to accelerate leveling beyond this base line. Basically, sidequests will be better than killing world monsters if they are intended to be a source of experience and implemented correctly. Otherwise the situation will bear no change.

OP raises a good point about sidequests and leveling multiple classes though. Obviously a lot of quests would have to be added should this become a significant source of experience. And you aren't guarenteed an even distribution of quests either. I'm willing to wait and see though.

Uhh, amnesia dust to the face!....?

Well right now I can only think of some quests could be repeatable on a daily basis. I know it sounds like leves, but it's the only thing that really comes to mind.
