So... are FATEs not considered open world content anymore? What exactly are you guys talking about?

It is but as it stands now a lot of people have gotten bored with them. It seems that most of the important things you do in game are instanced so you end up standing around, gathering, or crafting while waiting for duty finder.
Hamlet defense was an event from 1.0 that disciple's of war and the land took part in. Every so many hours it would happen and you would defend the hamlet an meanwhile crafters would be crafting to get debuffs on in coming mobs and on downtime between hamlet start time gather's would turn in materials to prepare the hamlet for the upcoming attack. You also got a currency from completing it that could get you some good gear. Also having open world dungeons to explore that are large with fates, gathering points and treasure to find with your treasure maps.. well who doesn't want that.![]()
I'm just trying to gauge what you mean by "Open World Content", because looking at past MMOs that I have played before with Open World Content not structured by FATEs... the only thing I can think of is random special enemies spawning in a very small area of a map where appropriate that are used as minibosses in quest objectives, and are often killed by trolling players to prevent other players from completing quest objectives through the act of kill-stealing.
FATES aren't all that disorganized. They usually all spawn in the same place, even if respawning does take a little bit of time. When it comes to FATEs like "Defend the Hive", there are many FATEs that chain together like that. There's one in Northern Thanalan that many people grind. However, why should FATEs like that be the only ones to exist? I mean, if a large amount of a certain beastial enemy shows up, how does one follow up on that? Do we raid their habitat and render the entire species extinct? I get that you want more sequential FATEs, but to call the whole thing disorganized because there are only a small number of those sequential FATEs in areas that people FATE grind in just seems silly to me.
And there are actually plenty of those sequential FATEs scattered all throughout the game world that people usually avoid due to either not being in an area where people normally gather to FATE grind for the most XP or for being too high in level for the level they're FATE grinding for. U'Ghamaro in Outer La Noscea has one, Coerthas Central Highlands has at least two, Sapsa in Western La Noscea has at least one, etc. It's not that there aren't enough of them, it's just that they're not in the exact same areas where people FATE grind and are, thus, avoided and not common knowledge.
Here are some examples from other games. There are all sorts of cool things one can do in the open world.

The OP asked for MORE open world content. Why is it as soon as someone brings up open world content people try and shove FATEs down our throat? Yes we all know FATEs are open world content, but they're meaningless spam-fests, we want other things do to such as open world dungeons to explore with treasure chests in, none FATE NM's with rare drops and side grade equipment to the dungeons etc.
Also on the subject of open world content, what ever happened to the open world primals they promised us? There was even footage of it in the bench mark! I remember them saying whoever killed the primal would be the only FC on that server to be able to summon it in battle and once they had used it; it would return to the open world for others to kill.

FATEs are just one thing. Variety is good.
I like that hamlet defense thing the OP described; I have to wonder why they scrapped it going into 2.0.
I can give you an MMO that does open world content in a much more varied way: Rift. You've got, of course, rifts, which come in a variety of types - minor, major, crafting, pvp, hunt, raid - and zone invasions, which have a variety of different objectives, including ones that are more pvp-oriented. Instant adventures are like rapid-fire, neverending group objectives that can take you all over a zone; you can queue for them or just encounter one out in the open world and join it using the game's public grouping feature. Artifact hunting is another biggy, especially with the new profession out, but people still also love completing collections; if you use Quantum/Omen sight (a special ability you can unlock by purchasing it with planarite once you hit 50), you can see special artifacts, as well as the entrances for the game's 10 man content, Slivers. The whole open world is littered with puzzles tucked away in mountains, or atop buildings, or in valleys, or whathaveyou, many of which give achievements or other rewards upon solving. Then there are those standard things such as rare mobs and material gathering. There are plenty of dailies and weeklies as well, if that's you're cup of tea.I'm just trying to gauge what you mean by "Open World Content", because looking at past MMOs that I have played before with Open World Content not structured by FATEs... the only thing I can think of is random special enemies spawning in a very small area of a map where appropriate that are used as minibosses in quest objectives, and are often killed by trolling players to prevent other players from completing quest objectives through the act of kill-stealing.
FFXIV has... gathering, FATEs, dailies and... what? This game just needs more.
