Afaik, FFXI was the first title where you could summon a pet/dragon as a Dragoon. The only ability a Dragoon MUST have is Jump!

^^^ This, not sure why so many try and associate dragoon mainly with XI, Kain was the most bad ass Dragoon and there has been one form or another of Dragoon in most titles all of which had no pet wyvern.

Haha, probably because FFXI was the first MMO in the series. And Wyvern pet just made Dragoon more unique.

You are sooo right Krausus. Kain is the bad-ass Dragoon of all time. As should be obvious, as my name is derived from him.

Im thinking (not 100% sure) that they will be Dragoon in English Dragon Knight in JP, kind of like how JP call Marauder Executioner

Problem to me with this is that the Marauders are Pirates. Executioner does not seem like a Pirate name.

I wouldnt mind if they gave dragoons powers/spells/abilities relating to weilding the spirits of the dragons they've killed much like in IX. It may just be the ishgardian lore but dragoons seem to be more focused around killing dragons than they were in XI.

In Japanese they are called "Magic Axe Man" and not Executioner. EXC was the english name before it got translated "correctly" by the english team.

Wooo maybe Dragoon will have pets!!!!!!!!!!!yay!

This seems like a good spot to drop some information that we recently heard from Yoshida... He mentioned that the dev. team is currently thinking about two different approaches.

The first is pet-related content where players can raise chocobos and other mounts that anyone can ride. The second idea is centered around pets that can only be utilized by specific jobs.

However, we won't be picking just one concept to implement. Instead we will be looking into the specifications so that we can implement both. However, as we are not yet at the stage where we can disclose when the implementation timing will be. We hope that the current chocobo implementation planned for 1.19 will hold you all over in the meantime.
