So all NM-dropped gear is useless? Thanks a lot for the translations Kristina, but please allow me to re-translate the quoted information above, as it seems giftforce has misunderstood the system.
In the quoted portion, it says:
"The Materia system will allow you to make the best gear, and for those interested in the best gear; the materia system is balanced in a way where attaching/adding materia to crafted gear will have better results then attaching them to NM dropped gear."
I apologize if my translation is not 100% correct, but it does literally say that Materia enhanced crafted gear will show better results then Materia enhanced NM dropped gear. Kristina also included this information " [materia buffed gear] > [NM dropped gear]" just not a word to word translation. So thank you again Kristina for the translations and the new information.
Why have useless things? Pointless.

It just means NM gear will be less stronger than a fully grinded materia gear.
It's the same concept with NQ and HQ gear, u can spot an NQ gear or you can strive for HQ gear, however with materia the option is open for everyone, not only for crafter with high ranks or rich players.
its all about 'option', since community here bitch about everything and anything, so they need an aggro off and on icon to please both sides.

The weapons and armors coming from crafting, with FULLY FUSED MATERIA, will perform better than those looted from NM.
But it doesn't say what if equipment looted from NM are fully fused (as rep commented before, some equipment cannot be fused).
BTW, allow me to point out one more thing: it is known to be hard to get a fully fused equipment because the ability to fuse 2nd materia is described as "very risky" by reps.
So, as a result, the crafted equipment, fully fused with materia, will somewhat as rare as similar one looted from NM.
It sounds reasonable from the view of balancer, to keep both fighters and crafters busy.![]()

Indeed, having the options between the two is great, in FFXI none of the crafted gear came close to HNM gear till later expansions. And you bring up a good point, the way you fuse Materia between NM and Crafted gear might be different in order to balance the system. I should start leveling some gathering and crafting classes^^ If the chance of success is very very high, then i think Materia might be used as a money sink since right now there is nothing to use gil for.No, my original translation is not word-to-word, and you clarified one thing:

Actually it sounds like you will still be able to mix and match skills when you are playing as a class, but when you switch to a specific job mode (like PLD, Bard, ect) you lose some of that ability in favor of gaining more advanced skills. I was bummed about about this news at first too but, when you think about it, it actually makes it so they can add a ton of different jobs and classes to the game. When you think about all the jobs they have ever made in the FF series, you realize this gives them the chance to add a ton of variety. For every class they release later, it essentially adds 2 or more new jobs to the game. If done right, this could be an awsome system. Some of the things mentioned are good (new tutorials, and the fact they are trying to make the game more universally acceptable).
But the job system just sounds so crap... FFS. Essentially they are ruining the armory system. Just remove the armory system if you're going to ruin it!
Also, a crafter is now a materia-worker? All gear will be dropped from NMs and all crafters will do is upgrade materia slots?
Lame!
Are they trying to ruin the game even more?
As to the lame comment about materia, I think its even lamer to let the best gear in the game only go to those that can come up with 32 people that can help them camp the hardest mobs in the game. Because that seemed to work out really well for the little guys in xi.

Except this game limits you to 8...so it cant be that bad. I think thats part of the MMO-verse in the first place. You play more, do more events, kill more things with more people, you get the best stuff. id rather they not let some halfwit get the best stuff because he can buy it. Nor do i want them to dumb everything down so "everyone" can get the best stuff, part of MMOs is the "showing off" part is it not?Actually it sounds like you will still be able to mix and match skills when you are playing as a class, but when you switch to a specific job mode (like PLD, Bard, ect) you lose some of that ability in favor of gaining more advanced skills. Its a game, thats how game would always really work, if someone has more time and wants to work harder, thats their business. You can apply that to just about anything in life. Guy #1 might spend more time in a game, but #2 spends more time with family, so in the end, everyone gets and looses something for the time and effort they put into things.

Not really sure how I feel about the multiple class for some jobs thing. Just seems like more trouble than it's worth and unless they redo the weapon system I just don't see it working.
Anyway, if grinding won't be "part of the game" will they finally balance out the EXP curve?
