You got the only part that has an actual lifespan anyway, the exclusive hair(assuming event items don't work with vanity). Be happy you at least got that.

Keep at it, OP! I started leveling my female Miqo'te at the beginning of the event for just getting the Guardian Corp gear and I got to level 45 last night! And that's with not logging on for a couple of days! Trust me, I hardly consider myself a hard core player at all, but you can do it! Just believe in yourself, do dungeons, do quests, do not distract yourself with leveling other jobs/classes that are unrelated for your job/class! Just level the bare minimum until you get to 45! (I accidentally put in 15 levels into Arcanist before Archer, so that was a couple of hours wasted. On the other hand, having Physick on a Black Mage has been very handy.)
You still have time! You can do it, OP! Don't spend time posting on the forums, log on and level! Do it! Do it, meow!
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
Looking at how the Events have been done after this one, I think Square Enix learned a lesson about designing content. Allowing a player to complete all of it at level 15 has no negative side effects and actually can draw in more players than a multipart story line. Simply having an instance of the Event that is designed to work at level 15, 25, 35, and 45 works well. The player is able to enjoy the Event and content at a level they feel comfortable with and no one feels rushed. It's a rare win/win scenario from a design perspective and for the player base.
Sadly as others have said, I do not expect to see the Lightning Returns Event ran again. That said, there isn't any reason to not have an option in the future to earn a slight variation of the rewards. Maybe in a year we'll see the gear drop with an option to dye it to colors of our choice. It wouldn't diminish the fact that some already have a full set and would give those with a full set a reason to go out and get this new variation. If some feel that's giving too much away, remember only those that ran the original Events will have access to the cut scenes and story.

Generally vanity items/items that don't effect max level players or the content, is for low levels. The only time I've seen items that were from events for high level, or close to it, has been items that max players can actually use (even if they don't have the best gear/raid gear).
Things probably would've gone better if the event items were completed at lvl 15, but the quests were more numerous to fill up a few days of questing for them. So, let's say the final event reward was Lightning's weapon (that gunsword thing). You'd get the normal white version (thats in the game now) and at 50, you could get a HM Primal version of it. Or something to that effect. Low levels get to see the end of the questline and a useful low level weapon, high levels get a weapon that's useful to them upon hitting level 50. Both now have an item that can be used for when vanity comes out. Everyone wins.
I just finished levelling two alts to 45 for the event and it was a real pain in the butt, I feel your pain.

Honestly if they were keeping with the "13" theme it should not of been levels over "13" just my opinion.
Casuals complaining about a casual game. You should be leveling instead of posting on the boards!
I must agree with Sigred, plus you gotta think of it from a FF universe standpoint. Say for some reason a big baddie from FF series shows up, you face him as a lv 15, and it gets wrecked. This goes against what they have stated they would do with exclusive FF based events, regardless of people being unable to do the event. They want people from the FF series to show up and for it to make sense (actually seem legitimately powerful); fighting FF13 bahamut as a lv 15 and beating it would make little sense :/
Sure they could have made that portion be different for the completion of the set (like you complete the set of gear) and the final fight is an achievement only fight but that would give less incentive for people to do it. As someone said before it all comes down to your choices.
I.E. someone can choose to go out and get an SO, or they can stay at home and play FF14. Them complaining they can't get an SO due to FF14 isn't SE's fault lol.
If whatever you're shooting doesn't die after you pump 8, 32 caliber, slugs into it, it's probably a dragon.
Oh? So people are not allowed to have an SO *and* enjoy whatever forms of entertainment they like? Is that so?
Also, who was complaining that they couldn't get an SO due to FF14?
EDIT: Sorry for the double post. WTF is up with only being able to post 1000 characters on a forum?
1k characters is taken up by quotes iirc :/Oh? So people are not allowed to have an SO *and* enjoy whatever forms of entertainment they like? Is that so?

No one was complaining about not getting an SO due to ff14, I was just making a point that it would be just as absurd to blame SE for not getting an SO XD
