Yes. Paladin is localization of Knight just as Dragoon is localization of Dragon Knight. I would prefer to have two distinct classes but it is how it is.
My name is a killing word.
(Seriously: "Caerith" was a forbidden name when I signed up on the forums.)
Eorzea should be a world, not a lobby.

In regards to character development, we initially tasked Naoki Yoshida and the new Development Team to do three things.
- Differentiate the Classes more.
- Bring back traditional Final Fantasy Job names.
- Provide clear Roles for players in parties.
From all the information they have released to us it looks like they are attempting to kill these 3 birds with only 2 stones.
- More armor and abilities will be restricted by Class, as well as abilities being moved and/or removed to help with Class differentiation.
- Jobs are being introduced to fulfill specialized Roles in parties.
If we focus on that last bullet-point, I think we may realize that we have been looking at this backwards.
If we begin our thinking with the end in mind ... that Jobs are going to be specifically for party use ... shouldn't we be trying to figure out what Class will get what Role?? If we do that first, maybe it would be easier to determine what Class will get what Job.

I've been wondering if maybe cnj leans more towards red mage, Thau leans towards a black mage and perhaps a new job like Archanist will be a white mage type job. But then again, archanist also appears to be a bard/corsair support type job.

There are already assassins in the game.
Do any of us see this as a job in the future?

Jobs just let you take a class to an extreme by sacrificing some of your flexibility to gain focus/strength in one area. Adding jobs does not decrease options - it adds options by expanding the spectrum that you can configure.
I wish I was artistic - I'd draw some kind of venn diagram where classes overlap and intersect on an inner circle, but then by using jobs you can stretch and expand the outer edge of a particular class - but that new circle you are now in has much less overlap with other classes (or even none at all).

Or they could work in a job-unlock quest angle in which they "see the light" and become holy warriors or at least knights. Once again, not hard.
Hey, gang. I wanted to bring you the official details that Yoshida has recently posted (at crazy hours mind you!) this morning on the Japanese forum. Here's what he had to say on the topic of the upcoming job system.
Hey everyone, this is producer/director Yoshida.
I seem to recall there being a discussion about what each class will become job-wise in a previous thread. While it's still a bit too early to talk about the specifics, I will let you know a bit about the plan. Once it becomes possible to publicize the specs, I plan on making a post in battle mechanics section, but since job implementation will be taking place post-class balance adjustments, it is going to take some time. (Planning for post patch 1.20.)
Matsui, Gondai, and myself, are creating this plan, and the early jobs are based on "party balance."
In other words, here is the basic premise:The above are just the foundation, and of course it doesn't mean that these are the limit of what types of roles we'll feature. I hope that this gives you something to discuss and speculate about.
- Tank
- Attacker
- Damage Dealer (Nuker)
- Healer/Crowd Controller
- Buffer/Crowd Controller

didnt get the quote in there but whatever, it says post patch 1.20 so basically jobs arent coming till AFTER patch 1.20, so figure october earliest, possibly later.
all in all means we probably should stop thinking about them. they are pretty far off

Well it depends on the timing of 1.19 and 1.20, which I think they are already working on even though 1.18 hasn't come out yet.
But I think you're right, remember that table from "Letter from the Producer X"
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...805-20-2011%29
It lists the content that is supposed to be implemented before the end of the summer, and under the "job system" category, it's written that the system will be developed, but in no way implemented within that time-frame.
