Free Company Alliances

'Way back' on the 18th of October, we heard this little tidbit:

Greetings,

While we do not have any plans to increase the cap for the maximum number of free company members, in the future we will be implementing a free company alliance feature that will allow you to connect with friendly free companies. We'll keep you updated on this feature!

I liked the idea then, but I'm even more interested in it now and I was wondering if there was anything at all a Community Rep could glean from the development team in regard to this feature.

My Free company is a whopping 8 members in total, of which perhaps about 5 are currently active. (Myself and 4 others.) We are very close and furiously working towards buying a Medium sized home. We admit new members slowly and we never actively recruit. We like our FC, and each other a lot, and I try to be careful in handling it.

That said, we're all pretty nice people and we meet other nice people who are already members of other FCs. Thinking that it would be a shame to exclude players from our fun just because they belong to other FCs, we have a LS which contains something of a melting pot of members. That melting pot now includes two other free company masters. Each company manages it's own affairs, and likes to do things their own way, but we share members and resources fairly freely. In effect, we have formed an alliance of 3 smaller companies even without this official feature, and thus have I become curious about what sort of things we might be able to do for one another that we can't do now.

I hope that a planned feature that encourages varied groups to get together in Eorzea hasn't been left on the cutting room floor, even if it's as simple as only allowing us to display our affiliations with one another. I worry, though, that the competitive climate I often see in game would discourage devs from implementing such a feature.

I love getting together with and helping all sorts of nice people, and so I wanted to show my great interest in, and support for, a Free Company alliance feature. If you feel the same, please express your interest, too.

Oh i definately agree with what you have said. Our FC is by no means large with 17 members but we all get along very well and help each other out.
The linkshell wish shares our FC name however is completely full at 128 members all in which has several different Free Companies on it with the same premise as everyone having fun and helping each other out.
either to level up together, do dungeons or if some are in need of crafting.
Also was there not supposed to be a Free Company merge feature? I recall reading about it a while ago but feel like that may be a good feature to add as well.
