Its not "nosey/rude" since you are not gimping yourself but also the whole group.
This whole "i play as i want" is nice and all but it has no business in group play where your action also affect other people. Get a group together that does want to do that kind of stuff but don't join a random group and expect for anyone to go ok with it.
