    @ Huntington - have you tried out Scholar? The healer role is slightly different, but good SCH can contribute nice DPS courtesy of the ACN toolbox. Cleric stance swaps mind/int and provides damage boost, you also keep Aero from Conj. I think all of that would miss in the Coil due to no accuracy on gear, but outside of that it may be interesting for you. Just a suggestion.

    Not bothering to repeat too much of what has already been said here, I'll just answer the OPs question.

    No there is not any unneeded holtility towards regular classes in this game.

    Any hostility encountered is fully justified by by the detraction from your jobs role (DPS) by any false sense of utility that you think can be found by playing your base class without it's soul stone equipped.

    The piddly heal that second wind provides compares nothing to the added vitality of myth gear, your souls stone and using a lv.90 weapon.

    Protect is already covered by another class and you have no use for it whatsoever.

    IR and B4B come nowhere near leveling out your dps loss from not equipping your soul stone and using a lv.90 weapon.

    Your silly test against a dummy doesn't account for the fall-off in dps you will generate by using your "utility" skills in battle instead of sticking to dps and avoiding avoidable damage.

    If you can't give us a video, give us your rotations for both SMN and ACN for dps to back up your statement that the the difference is negligible. Otherwise, I'm going to just believe the endless stream of players here that have spent more time working out the math and testing than you spent in 10 minutes testing against another person.

    You will ALWAYS encounter hostility from other people when you purposefully lower your ability to perform your jobs role in a party. It will be because your willful decision to under-perform your role is considered a hostile action against the group as a whole.

    When you purposefully choose to under-perform your role you are at the same time demanding more dps out of your fellow dps, more time tanking from your tank and more time healing from your healers.

    The only way you could possibly not grasp that your choice is hostile would be if you sincerely believed that your dps is better as a arcanist that cannot equip 90 gear or weapons (aside from what you can pick up in turn 1&2).

    In that case, please provide your rotations for both roles so that we can compare the damage difference between the two.

    When your pop into a forum and declare that everyone elses' math and testing are null and that your dps is the same with both setups, you will receive condescension until you can back up your statements with proof. Whether or not you perceive someones reply as condescending doesn't devalue their argument nor provide any backing to your own.

    i had a argument about acn vs smn when the game was still new,i think it still holds up.

    some guy on the forum.
    all 5 dots (bio2, miasma, bio,aero,thunder) contagion value is 850 potency, bfb is 20% increase, ir is 10% increase average (20% crit), a total of 30% raw dps increase, 30% of 825 is 255.

    me.
    that's 255 character potency vs 200 pet potency.
    factor in the 20 extra int just for being a smn,the extra ruin potency from the difference between fester/aero then that number gets smaller.
    not even too mention that bfb is on a 80 sec cd and only last 20secs and for ir 60 sec cd and only 15 secs.during the minute and 45 second downtime respectively when your not doing that extra 30% you will get some vastly different numbers then if you just assumed it was a static 30%increase

    that was the main argument for acn vs smn is they get access too all those buffs.


    also this was the argument for the skills namely aero/energy drain making up for what you loose when you stay acn.

    first off for aero and a energy drain too equal 1 fester it takes 12 seconds of the 18. so 3 aero=54 seconds and if you factor in the time inbetween aero casts from the gc its about the same time you get another stack of aether flow.
    so that's an extra what 150 potency over the course of a min with aero.
    but if a smn did not have aero he would replace an aero cast with a ruin cast.
    so 3 aeros have put you in the down time of 7.5 seconds in waiting to cast something else.
    in that time if you started off fresh you could cast 2 ruins in that time 3 if there ruin 2s.
    so 2 ruins 160 potency or 3 ruin 2s 240 potency.

    the whole aero+energy vs fester is worse off,not just on potency alone but in burst.smn already has shacky burst damage and removing fester and spur/enkindle only makes it worse.
    now this is all off the top of my head and could be wrong,but the way I see it aero is not worth it and definitely not worth the spur/enkindle/fester trade off.
    not too mention the potency difference on the pets alone and the int buff for just being a smn also the 20%damage of raging strikes.



    long post short,it's not even an argument.
    if you wanna play acn,whatever.you do you.
    but when it comes down too smn vs acn the vs should be replaced with a >.

    For the record since you played FFXI, your thought about Arcanist is the same as wanting to go as let's say WAR/WHM (Warrior mainjob, White Mage as subjob) to an XP party. Result is the same, you'd get kicked asap or wouldn't even be invited. Same deal with endgame back then; people wouldn't waste an alliance slot on silly job combinations for AV, PW, Nyzul v2, Salvage v1 or whatever.

    Your job is to deal damage, let the healers heal and play Arcanist while doing dailys or something.

    My original plan was to keep with Arcanist as well. I do not like to heal others, as I do not have the ability to keep an eye on everyone's health while doing other things. (ADHD....)

    I was doing a dungeon the other day and a guy decided to tell me that I was just "gimping through the game" while not choosing to go another route with my class. Because of that, I did go and get summoner and I do like the summons/stat boosts I received but I do feel that I should have been able to be the arcanist without any kind of opinions, however kind or rude, thrown at me simply because I play a different way. I do enjoy summoner, as I said and I can see where that guy was coming from but I thought it was kind of nosey/rude of him to pipe up with that. I feel your pain! :3

    This whole "i play as i want" is nice and all but it has no business in group play where your action also affect other people. Get a group together that does want to do that kind of stuff but don't join a random group and expect for anyone to go ok with it.

    I don't like this idea how people say "healers are healers, not dpsers" which is true, but this is final fantasy and "Holy" belongs to white mages. Its been powerful in all series.. Per with flare or even stronger, that's what holy is about. A pure energy that capable of destroying planets. However, this is online mmo and ofc people will get upset and complain. Square made huge mistake by making holy so powerful in the first place, please agree with me on that. Lets be honest, all they had to do was to increase holy potency, possibly to 260, keep the AoE stun which is 4 sec and make CD longer so people can't spam it. Now, some people would say 260?? Are you crazy! But, remember I mentioned longer CD. They can't spam means, they all going to focus on healing more... I don't know.
