Having the same issues. Played yesterday morning with no issues, logged out for maintenance, tried logging back in today and getting the "unable to complete version check" message. I turned off all anti-virus programs and firewalls and uninstalled the game and re-installed. Nothing is working.

I did a system restore back to 02/18/14 and was able to get past the version check but now I'm getting "Unable to update patch files. [11006][20819][20890][19900][3]".

Another update: Deleted all the files in the "ffxivpatch" folder located here: Documents > My Games > FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn > Downloads > ffxivpatch

It started to download the patch and then gave me the same error half way through.

I tried copying the patch info file from my roommate's PC and replacing my patch info file with it, no success. Still working on it.

    Got it

Same problem, game runs fine on all 3 of my laptops and my 2 other desktops. It is not a network issue. It isn't a permissions issue, a registry issue, or a directory location issue. All three of those would be fixed with a clean install of the game. It isn't a anti-virus or firewall issue. Because when you start up or try to install the game again your anti-virus or your firewall would be going ape-shit with questions and "are you sure". My fix was the same thing I do when I have any major problems that, a registry cleaner and a fresh install of the game can't fix. Format and install my OS again. If you have restore points and or a "recovery" options from what ever manufacturer your computer is from use them. If you built it yourself or had someone build it for you use the windows OS disc you should have gotten to Format and Install a fresh copy of your OS on your system. If you don't know how to do this or are having trouble I can walk you through it just drop me a line on here I'll be watching this thread.

Someone recently reported an issue with corrupted version check files. Simply re-installing the game does not necessarily remedy this problem... unless you delete them before installing. Screwy thing with the Windows versioning... newer files are not always automatically overwritten with older ones when you re-install.

The fix was to open the files in notepad and make sure they both show the same version string. Drill into the XIV install folder. There are two subfolders, boot and game. Under each of them, open the .ver files in notepad or other text editor and make sure they are showing the same string. Also double check the .bck files as well---these don't need to be identical, but they should have a version string that follows the same format as the others. Any one of these may have become corrupted, and may even have gotten the "Read Only" attribute set on them. So you may want to right-click them and select "Properties" to make sure they aren't checked as "Read Only" as well.

This may be an indication that a disk check may be in order. Better to nip the problem in the bud now if your security descriptors are starting to get knackered up (common problem with Windows).
