So after getting this error myself and having enough money for it I think I nailed the problem: The Mog Station was down for maintenance and they shut down the transaction process before they shut down the station itself. There is scheduled maintenance today for the game, but they didn't mention for the Mog Station which is a little annoying-however they might always do that when doing game maintenance.

Oh wait nevermind, it's something a lot more silly than that: Apparently Error 406 according to SE support is an issue with your bank, however if you try to enter in your card details more than 3 times and then try and use a different card it blocks your payments for 3 days. Which apparently support can't wave. Not the greatest news for an Australian where you can't buy Crysta and they don't sell timecards in stores (you have to order them online).

Having the same problem, Error 406 when I try to activate my account & Error 401 when I try to add crysta to my account...
As Carmen, no Game Cards in stores around where I live too =/ The only way I see this possible is by adding 25€ to my steam wallet and pay with it with is just silly...

The error is not with your financial institution, it is with SE. My gf was trying to pay for another 180 days, she has plenty of money in her account, she still received the 406 error. She then tried her Credit Card, also with more than enough funds, and once again 406. The customer service is inefficient any way you look at it. They are quick to blame you instead of looking at maybe there is an issue with our system, such as a glitch. I am curious if anyone else used a Master Card as their payment and came up with the 406.

I have no clue why SE wont let us use a PayPal account. If I were to put money on it, I would bet that no community rep or anyone from the dev team will comment on this issue, in any of the threads regarding it.

I have Master Card, and it still gets the same error. I called my Bank, and Sony to assure it has nothing to do with them. It is definitely, for a fact, and issue with SE.

My first free month has expired. I originally tried to buy Crysta using a fresh and unused Master Card Vanilla gift card (electronic use only) of 100CAN$ and buy a few months' worth of Crysta. The conversion of Canadian currency into American one should have given me something which would end up costing under 80CAN$ - well under the real total amount of funds available I suspect would be around 95CAN$ if you include whatever activation fees those annoying cards have. I got two errors 401.

I then decided then to go with a no-nonsense automatic renewal using my credit card this time, credit card which has worked for pretty much every games I've paid for and still does today, thinking maybe that gift card is just utter chocobo dung (it has yet to work for ANY purchase). Got error 406.

    I guess I just won't be playing FFXIV:ARR.

I am still on my free month, I have yet to see FF14 cards for sale here in Canada, from the sounds of it they have problems with credit card subscriptions... I hope they fix this before my free time expires, as I want to keep playing.

I also just ran out of my "free" month. First there was only an option to pay by Steam Wallet, which didn't work. I contacted support and now have an option to pay by credit card. I'm getting Error 406 - but $1 charges from SE are showing up all over my credit card account, so the card is working fine and the card info is fine. The successful $1 charges prove that.

So support told my to load Crysta. The credit card payment to Crysta gives error 401. When I use Ultimate Pay they also refuse my card. I've had my card for over 5 years and I don't want to go into details but there's well over $10k before I hit the limit. I used the card to purchase the game in the first place a month ago, and I've made multiple purchases this week.

If SE can't figure out how to accept payment through the advertised methods, I want a refund on the purchase price of the game.

I ran out of my free month a week ago as well, and made 7 failed attempts at paying the subscription by my credit card (ERROR 406). Like you guys I've also been billed $1+ per "failed" attempt, and I have been using the same card for groceries, bills, etc.

I really like FFXIV, but this payment drama is a big turn-off (what is so difficult with setting up a simple internet transaction found on countless other websites??) Plus it seems like a very common problem that should be fixed (but ignored).

I might try fiddling around with PayPal and Crysta, but I'm so disappointed at the sloppy system that I've abstained from trying this past week and gone back to playing WoW. (Never had any issues with payment for WoW on their website all these years...)

    Seriously, what gives??
