SE, Please fix this FC exploit

It was devastating to lose our hard earned gil. About 3.5 to 4mil of that came from my own pockets which I had been saving since v.1... Our members were getting excited because we made it to about the halfway point on getting a medium house. Losing our housing fund was a blow that is hard to recover from. Quite a few of our members wanted to quit, the FC leader and myself included.

Luckily, our members are strong and supportive of each other and we are managing to bounce back. We don't know if we will be able to get the house we wanted now before they get all bought up. So we will just have to remain homeless for a while longer than expected.

Even if it's a design flaw you should take care with who is allowed to promote/demote and change hierarchy settings.

Also i'm sure you've been robbed by a player not an RMT, RMT sellers and spammers have something in common, original names from stolen accounts, randomly generated names (those follow lore naming conventions), names containing the name of the RMT web page or names that contains "sdf", i would get rid of that "leader" you got with the merge.

We did get rid of him, along with another character we know he is personally associated with (family member).

Good move, as the sub leader of a small FC trying to buy a house, i can understand the pain of your loss, hope you can get your gil back at least, good luck.

I wasn't aware of this whole promoting above your own rank thing. I'll need to change things around when I get online tonight it seems >.> I'm sorry this has happened and wish you all the luck in getting your gil/items back. As the leader of a smallish FC I understand how much effort must have went into earning all that gil.

Our FC leader figured this out months ago, and removed the rank setting privileges from the officer rank because of it.. and I'd agree that its silly you can promote above the rank that you have (seems like a big loophole/exploit imo)

That really sucks...but honestly why the hell would you give a new member so much power when they had just joined your FC? Who cares if they merged w/you. You don't give them the power to have excess to promotion/withdrawals until they have proven their loyalty. Hopefully other people will read this and learn from your FC's mistake.

They couldn't withdraw, only deposit. We weren't even going to allow him access to the gil because I like to keep meticulous bookkeeping of where our funds come from. A mistake on our parts for being too trusting, but if the hierarchy worked as a hierarchy should, this wouldn't have happened.

You obviously have never taken part in a merge. Most if not all the time the leader of the incoming guild/fc/whatever is given basic privileges to invite and manage their members until they are all fully integrated into the receiving one. In other games having such power does not pose as much of a risk seeing they can only promote to the rank below theirs at best, this is not the case here.

Nice assumption, but you are incorrect. My previous FC, which is no longer active, was at 1 time the largest FC on Adamantoise. Within that time we had several smaller FCs merge with us. And we had no problems inviting all their members into our ranks. Granted we did lose all our items/gil once our "Fearless Leader" decided to leave the game for Wildstar and not tell anyone. We had several(minor) server firsts including first DoW/DoM to 50, first crafting class to 50, and first to have all crafting classes to 50. So we had quite a bit of goodies, but I digress. Once again, I'm sorry that this happened to you guys, but take it as a learning experience. I know it sucks(been there) but don't be so trustworthy to new people. Especially ones who are expecting access to your company chest. Make them go through a probationary period or w/e.
