Our FC leader figured this out months ago, and removed the rank setting privileges from the officer rank because of it.. and I'd agree that its silly you can promote above the rank that you have (seems like a big loophole/exploit imo)

That really sucks...but honestly why the hell would you give a new member so much power when they had just joined your FC? Who cares if they merged w/you. You don't give them the power to have excess to promotion/withdrawals until they have proven their loyalty. Hopefully other people will read this and learn from your FC's mistake.
To help in this case would mean admitting that they made a mistake, and that's something very few big companies, especially ones like SE who have so much vested on this game"s success want to do. Another thing to consider is that a lot of the people who respond to complaint emails or calls are just people sitting at a desk with a script that shows answers for the majority of the complaints they hear or may hear, hence the copy paste answers you often get when you file a complaint through email. The only thing you can really do at this point is press the matter until one of them is forced to break that script and actually try to resolve the problem.Wow, this is b/s. WTF is going through SE head sometimes when theydesign these things. I can understand overlooking the "Ready Check Spam" because its not something they really expect from the JP community but to let someone promote above their own rank? Thats just plain stupid. Then to top it off they refuse to help when their own flawed system allows someone to rob a whole FC off their hard earned rewards? Honestly, makes me feel like quitting before this or some other stupid design on their part allows another player or even a gold seller to screw me over.

They couldn't withdraw, only deposit. We weren't even going to allow him access to the gil because I like to keep meticulous bookkeeping of where our funds come from. A mistake on our parts for being too trusting, but if the hierarchy worked as a hierarchy should, this wouldn't have happened. That really sucks...but honestly why the hell would you give a new member so much power when they had just joined your FC? The cake is a lie.
You obviously have never taken part in a merge. Most if not all the time the leader of the incoming guild/fc/whatever is given basic privileges to invite and manage their members until they are all fully integrated into the receiving one. In other games having such power does not pose as much of a risk seeing they can only promote to the rank below theirs at best, this is not the case here. That really sucks...but honestly why the hell would you give a new member so much power when they had just joined your FC? I hope you can get your gil back.... But SE is going to have to do an investigation on it. I can't find that person on the lodestone, So whoever stole your stuff made an account and deleted it. Now you are going to have to look at it from the other side (sorry going to say it).
How do you or we know that it wasn't you or one of your other FC leaders that made an alt and stole the items/gil? Now I'm not trying to say you did, I'm saying this from an investigative standpoint. But to me it doesn't sound like you had anything to do with it. If someone made an ALT then deletes it can SE still link it to someone's account?
If the person who stole your Gil was smart they used a account that wasn't linked to the SE account they used. If I was wanting to steal the items I would use a separate account, That way it couldn't be traced back to me.
I hope that it wasn't someone you trust. When I played FFXI I was in a big LS and one of the LS leaders made of with the LS bank close to 200mil. That's why I hate the whole bank idea. I really hope you get your Gil back cause that is a lot.
My question is...why did he have promotion privileges in the first place?
My clan's rule with mergers is the leader gets an officer position, but to promote other people they have to be approved by us (however, we normally don't allow it, since we have a three-rank structure and officers are trusted long-standing members; the new leader-officer has limited officer powers as well, just so we don't get burned)
Yes, you shouldn't be able to promote above your position...but...you probably shouldn't be so "free" with privileges on new members.
SE would have to have some pretty crappy security measures if they couldn't do that.
I feel your pain TC. Our FC leader made it so only the master can promote/demote people because he had heard of a situation like this happening to other FCs. When our first FC dissolved and the old leader kept a good chunk of the chest money (NOTE: it could have been gil that was originally his) that was already depressing, I can only imagine how it feels to lose all your gil.
Wow this is terrible, my FC has a rank that can promote members and a rank above that which can change rank settings, fortunately we've yet to promote anyone to that rank, and good thing too, it never occurred to me for a second that they would be able to promote above themselves and have access to our rank settings and thus our FC bank. Thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to re-evaluate our rank settings. Sorry about what happened to you though, hope you get it resolved.
