Same issue. Works fine when I change from full screen (crossfire) to borderless window (no crossfire). Definitely a graphics card issue, but caused by something SE changed with the 2.16 patch.

And I found the problem. I did a side by side comparison to my wife's computer's (nested possessive nouns :]) 3d application settings in the catalyst settings under gaming.

If everyone having the problem is like me then you found the trick to making crossfire work before crossfire was supported. That method meant creating a custom crossfire profile for ffxiv.exe with using swtor.exe settings. I had this created, but my wife never did. So I deleted it, and the problem went away. I used GPU-Z to verify that both video cards were being used during play.

Now here comes the downside. Using the default crossfire settings for ffxiv caused a big drop in FPS. I went from using Desktop high settings in 1080 resolution and getting 55-60 fps on average to about 30-35 on my 6870s. The good news is instead of using the swtor.exe profile use fear.exe instead. I'm back up to my normal FPS and no more flashing character names.

This worked for me as well. Thanks a ton. I thought I tried the FEAR Crossfire profile quite awhile ago and it didn't work well, but either I didn't or whatever changed in the patch made it run better. Nevertheless thanks for posting that up.

-Game looking fine Except the nameplate in Afr mode, cinematics fine except some rare place where there is a little flicker because of bright lightning.
-Game and nameplate are fine With Fear or Optimise 1x1 mode except some extreme flickering in cutscene, some of them are unwatchable so much it flicker

Afr mode was fine before the patch,no nameplate problem whatsohever

AFR is what worked best for me pre-patch. Default and Optimize 1x1 resulted in random instance of running half frame rate for no apparent reason (such as when your retainer walks out). I haven't seen any flickering in cutscenes with the FEAR profile, but there is some minor light flickering just wandering around.

I'd like to have my AFR back soon.
