    Swiming

So I am unsure if others have posted something about this but here goes. I do remember SE saying something about the maybe adding swimming into the game when people were asking if we could jump. (during 1.0) My question is, does SE still have plans to add this into the game? I think it would be really cool.
    Thoughts?

They mentioned it every now and then, saying that it'd be an interesting addition to the game, but they always made it sound like it was something to consider for a far future anyway.

Not particularly sure why they are so resistant to it anyway. Jumping may not serve a purpose, but I can't stand a game without it. Just jumping for random fun eases me.

On another note...there's way too many invisible walls

I'd say invisible walls are exactly why SE is taking the long view on MAYBE adding swimming. There are many, many places in the game where map boundaries are set by water. If players could swim, SE would need to reevaluate those areas to ensure that players aren't able to reach places they shouldn't be able to reach - and if they can, would need to add different obstacles to prevent swimmers from doing so.

In other words, it's not just something cute they can toss in. It's something that would take a lot of work to evaluate the impact.

There's also the issue of armor, particularly heavy armor. Can we swim in that? Could be jarring. How about medium armor, or clothing - do you swim slower? FFXIV takes a very much less "cartoonish" approach to the MMO genre than games like World of Warcraft do, and a WAR chugging along through the water wearing full Darklight Heavy Armor would be pretty silly.

Swimming serves no purpose. If people want water based content they need to be asking for areas/dungeons featuring a water breathing spell effect. Rather than a useless swimming feature where people will just end up bitching that they swam so far out that they hit an invisible wall this would allow for expanded content and under water fights like raiding a Sahagin base or fighting aquatic enemies that don't just magically float around in mid air.

Fatigue followed by drowning if you swim too far.

Unless we have some sort of exploration underwater, i dont really see a reason to have swimming, unless of course some RP'ers enjoy their time at the beach and want to go for a swim.

This is FF14, not nintendo fail era Monster Hunter where fighting underwater makes no damn sense because your gear is so damn heavy you would just sink straight to the bottom in first place.

Granted, in FF we are defying some physical laws, such as running and jumping the way we do while wearing such heavy gear, but at the same time we do take fall damage. Fighting underwater would be the dumbest thing ever, because when effects like heavy exist, and you have the green crap in toto-rak, your movement underwater should be seriously effected as well. If swimming was added, it should be more of a leisure ability to have fun with, or a new type of fishing(spear fishing anyone? I know that would make fishing more worth doing in my eyes).

Allods has decent enough under-water fighting content. it's not like it is something that would ruin the game.

but i do agree with the armor thing. it would be rather awkward to swim in that rather heavy looking armor. i think if they ever did any under-water content. they would make an expansion or DLC out of it.
