A simple fix would be to make it show who initiated it. if someone abuses it, kick them. Problem solved.
Looks like this is getting some fixes. Check out Reinheart's translation of Community Rep Lastygalle's post:

looks like a nice update
its just speculation but me and the people in my FC believe we figured out something about the "ready check" feature that gives us the idea that its somewhat broken, we tested it and the result was interesting, when everyone said yes it just closed and never came back, but when 1 person said no it kept coming back till everyone said yes. so its looking like SE didnt think to put a stop in it once the monsters are engaged

Designing features without thinking about abuse is like leaving your door open and then getting robbed and complain the society sucks. Sure, that may have something to do with it, but it'd also help if you didn't start by leaving the door open.
As far as I know all the other games only allow party leader and designated guys to run a ready check, and it also tells you who initiated the ready check. We're not talking about a revolutionary feature that nobody has thought of before here.
Anything they implement get's abused. They can't fix assho***.

Change three things:
1) Make it so the big window(after people have all clicked ready or cancel) doesn't automatically pop up.
2) Don't allow ready check during combat.
3) All ready check pop ups automatically close as soon as someone engages in a battle.
