I don't think they can send you notification whenever someone post a new PF that suits your search, because that will increase server load.
They can however, make client to remember the last search result, and compare it when it does the background search so it can tell you how many listing are new.
This may need to be an option that players can enable/disable though.

Actually a simple pub / sub model could fulfill this with little overhead server side.
