On the subject of holes, Hydaelyn chose herself a hero of light before the calamity released Odin (v1.0 Warriors of Light), so that doesn't quite fit. But it doesn't utterly destroy your ideas either.

There's a quest that tells it, I don't remember what it is, maybe just a cs but it says he was shackled by the guy from the opening video who still guards him with his power. Think it's the cutscenes that introduce you to turn 2
