Which DoM Job best fits my characters story?

My character is a disciple of magic, because she has never had a strong affinity for the arts of war. Although she is close friends with the Archons/Scions, as well as the majority of the people in her Class guild, and does not break with them regarding the use of her powers, she nevertheless views them as more or less the only sane people in Eorzea. Although my character does her best to remain stoic, she sees the City States as arrogant, nationalistic, and blinded to the truth, and secretly resents 80% of the City State townsfolk for treating her like dirt just because she is an Adventurer.

Despite this, she really is good in all intents and purposes, and understands the threats the Primals and the Garleans pose to the world. In terms of personality, she actually tends to be a lot like Terra or Yuna at times. But with a different element.

So which disciple of magic class or classes do you think would best fit this background? Summoner? Combination WHM/BLM?

THM only because of the somewhat arrogant guild masters

As far as I recall, Gridania is the only city that is openly hostile towards adventurers and outsiders. Ul'dah struggles to keep out refugees, but doesn't appear particularly prejudiced towards adventurers. Limsa Lominsa, being a city founded by pirates and brigands, is largely ambivalent towards adventurers. Significantly, however, Admiral Merlwyb is the only one of the three Grand Company leaders to mention adventurers in her memorial speech.

So, for a start, I think your character would likely find Limsa to be the most "suitable" city in which to practise her art.

Here's how I look at it: If bitterness and cynicism form the core of your character's theme, thaumaturge is likely to be the best fit. The class is all about channelling one's aether to work magic, and in its advanced form, it even draws power from the Void.

If, on the other hand, your character sees herself as primarily rational and cool-headed, she's more likely to be an arcanist. More so than the other disciplines of magic, arcanima functions almost like a science — it works magic by shaping aether through arcane geometry. The discipline itself emphasises the use of tactics, rather than sheer might, to overcome enemies.

Your character is even more likely to be a scholar in the Nymian tradition, ancient mages who were reputedly the tactical leaders of marauder companies that held back repeated invasions by numerically superior foes.

I would have almost written off any possibility of your character being a conjurer. But if she is indeed like Terra or Yuna, then she would in fact be a good fit for conjury, since the discipline is arguably the most pacifist of the three. The irony, of course, would be the fact that the guild is located within the city that is the most hostile towards adventurers.

I would say Arcanist, and the go from there. You portrayed her as a practical person, and analytical at times so ARN. If you want her to have an"exceptional" power smn story sort of lines up with that. The SCH is more "aloof" as for story so she would be separated from others in her own category.

One of the possible themes I had for her was someone who chose the forest for the peace and beauty of it, is well respected by most of the Padjal, yet all too often finds herself the target of contempt by the Elezen for being an outsider.

And I've only done about 30% of the side quests in Thalanan, but I remember Uldah questgivers being very rough around the edges, sometimes even jerks, just as often as the Gridanians. It's very clear that the general view in both of those cities is that respect must be earned, not immediately given.

    EDIT:

I could be wrong, since it is muddy in lore, but I would actually say Scholar is the one class I have almost dismissed any possibility of my character being. It's described as being a military strategist/field marshal, and, as I've already established, my character's temperament is ill-suited to being a dedicated member of a Grand Company. A White Mage could theoretically heal the forest, and act as a healer for a group of Adventurers, but wouldn't a Scholar be out of business working for anyone other than the Maelstrom?

I can see you being more of an acn that dable a bit in cnj. Depending on how far you take it a sch since its a rare, but possible to find a fairy. That fairy will give you many info on the past and many.

I would be more inclined to say cnj or whm. Kan e senna and a towa cant all seems practical and pacifistic, although you'll be bound by the elementals bidding.

    To answer TinyRedLeaf's question...

The best way I can describe my character is like a somewhat disillusioned version of Terra. At heart she is fairly pacifistic, wants to use her magic to make the world a better place, but at the same time she's fairly sensitive, strongly disagrees with tough love, and consequently sees the military orders (at least the Wood Wailers and Brass Blades anyway) as hypocritical jerks.
