I'm not justifying that, nor do I believe that is entirely relevant. I would argue, however, that if Minecraft charged for server usage, but a few more enemies or whatever, people would gladly pay it. Think of it as, you are paying for content every month and a half or so (referring to .05 patches), new enemies/dungeons etc, but what the grand portion of what your paying for is an open world that you can enjoy with friends. To be clear, I understand completely that this is not for everyone (I hate Minecraft), but to me personally it just feels more optimistic.
I have to say that.... I never felt bored, (I started only a month ago after all) And I have not really so much time like others, also I'm levelling more or less al classes slowly and enjoying the game the max. But, for those who already reached endgame and that... What about....
...
...
Help new players? They are almost unlimited so you can have unlimited fun!...(Well, depending of personality)
In my case, even If I have not finished the game, I can't avoid to approach a character with the standard race-clothes (My unique way for knowing if they are news here) do a nice /welcome, speak a little, give them tips and hints, and some extra-present for helping them in their adventure.
But it's a matter of tastes, of course, what I just said could be so boring for some people as for example it is healing for me (And I don't mean healing is boring or can be boring, it's just that is boring for me, in my opinion, for my tastes.)

Thank you Doo!
Those of us who have dabbled and 'tried' out a few other things ie chocobo leveling, dailies, a couple of crafts, picked up a couple of sub-jobs for cross skills but concentrated primarily on our main character - we have been ACTIVELY FOLLOWING ALONG just exactly as Yoshi's vision and p-r described the flow of this game to be.
Now we are past the 'hopeful' part and the 'look forward to it' and currently in a place of "So, WHEN DOES THAT REAL GAME START AND WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?????"
I'd like to see Yoshi's quote in BOLD letters on every single post in this forum every single time anyone brings up any suggestions for changes, reminders of promises to come and difficulty in being satisfied with the current state of FFXIV ARR.

Games like Minecraft and GTA encourage exploration and creativity. That is part of the appeal of those games. You won't see people looking for a creative experience playing just any random game so they can participate in activities like, in your own words, "explor[ing] specific parts of a map and kill enemies around there for no particular reason." Nothing about FF14 encourages this type of experience, from the tiny open world to the incredibly structured and mundane quests to the fact that most areas in the game generally can't even be explored due to the fact that they're gated behind the duty finder. I assure you that no significant amount of people looking for a creative experience are paying $15 a month so they can stand in the corner of Sourthern Thanalan killing sandworms.OK, I'll bite again, with a thought. Take it as you will:
You know Minecraft? The video game? It is wildly popular. It makes a lot of money. There is no goal. You make the game. Often referred to as a "sandbox" game. GTA is another good example. Why would I bring this up?
Instead of only picturing an MMO as a set of numbers to crunch, imagine it for a second as a sandbox game. You don't have to farm tomestones today, you can instead explore specific parts of a map and kill enemies around there for no particular reason. You are not restricted by the bounds of tomestones and events. Instead, you are given a realm to do whatever you want, whenever you want, with whoever you want. There are plenty of examples of people taking advantage of this idea, by making their own content. There was a house maze created on one server, PF challenges/help runs, player-made contests.
The point I'm getting at is, not only do I think there is enough content in general currently, but an MMO is a self-sustaining form of relaxation and gameplay. Of course, you don't have to think this way if you don't want to. But at the end of the day, people seem to be having fun, and you aren't. That's a lonely feeling.
Fair enough. Like I said, it was just a thought. I don't necessarily do what I gave an example of (OK I totally do sometimes), but it was meant more as a general statement than anything. For the record, I don't entirely relate to the $15 a month because I'm Legacy Status and don't use more than 1 character, so I could very well be biased. $15 is admittedly a bit a hefty, but I do think you are getting more out of what you are paying for than you may think, is all.
My point was less about the money and more about what's offered in terms of creativity. I wouldn't expect people looking for a creative experience to download FF14 if it were free. You're comparing it to a game like Minecraft that has endless possibilities in terms of creativity, where you can let your imagination run wild and spend days creating something unlike anything that anyone else ever has. Nothing in FF14 has even the tiniest shred of what a real sandbox game offers in terms of exploration or creativity.Fair enough.
Bolded for all those people who keep saying "OMG YOU RUSHED IT".
It's been almost 6 months since the game was released, almost half a year. This excuse may have been valid 2-3 months in but now it's ridiculous.
Alright I'll bite! Let's throw some suggestions my way since I unfortunately have 30 days left on my sub.
Pvp - It's god awful and I'm a pvp fanatic. They have no clue how to do the pvp obviously and it's sad because Yoshi said he likes pvp but then makes it so casters can't cast anything. ._.
Dungeons - There's no rare drops from them, no point in running ones that don't give you myth/philos. Not to mention the level syncing and removing skills is annoying, which is why I REFUSE to do the low lvl roulette. And the dungeons are BORING they're small straight paths.
Crafting - Lmfao.
Gathering - ROFL!
Exploring - I hate running into a freaking loading screen every 3 seconds (exaggerating of course) one of the main reasons why I don't play a lot of console games. >.> I like the seamless feel, so much for that.
Treasure maps - I do them here and there but they are boring and pointless. Nothing rare/good will ever drop from them. If I wanted to kill random mobs, I would without the treasure maps.
Leveling all classes - Lol for what? I don't like the other classes so why level them? Okay just for shigs lets level other classes I don't plan on using. They are stuck at i71 since everything has a WEEK lock out and people only want i80 for freaking ifrit HM ._. it just sits there.
Level your chocobo! - Why? You can't really do anything with it. Maybe if there were oohh ionno elite mobs running around the world than yeah.
GC seals/rank - Dungeons drop/will drop gear that will be on pair with GC gear. So why level it? Oh yeah for the restat? You mean the restat that I'll never use because there's only ONE build for all classes. Yaapp
What is there to do? I log in I talk to friends I get bored. A lot of people say "Well log in to talk to your friends" why should I pay 15 dollars a month to talk to them when there's facebook/twitter/msn/skype/vent/mumble/etc

Different people have different needs. Happens in every game. To some people, raid content is all that an MMO is about. I think if they enjoyed other aspects of the game, they already enjoyed them enough or did not enjoy them.
I think it's funny though, because the type of player you are talking about isn't usually a WF or SF kind of player. I mean, they actually have to whine enough to be described like that.
The player you're trying to describe usually just quits because they know that whining doesn't make content come out faster.
