    My Friend the "Completionist" :/

    DISCLAIMER

"This is only a thread to discuss possible ideas for people struggling to find things to do in game who are currently either exhausted by the content and a little bored, or looking for something different to do while waiting to cap myths, etcetera. Nothing more, nothing less."

    .......................................................................

This particular friend of mine is one I’ve had a lot of fun playing with. Additionally, he is a very informed player concerning game play mechanics and always up to date with regards to the latest letters from the editor etcetera.

We used to have a BLAST fate grinding, farming rare mats in open world, helping other friends with their relics, amongst many many other things. To top it off, my friend was always group oriented or “hive minded”. Sure he would say “sorry I’m busy” at times, but for the most part he was the rare gamer we can all appreciate who sacrifices his personal gain for the benefit of others.

Without further digression, I’d like to share a conversation we had a few nights ago. I’d also like to preface that conversation with this statement: I play….A LOT. I have more free time than most who play this game, and have seen my friend logged on almost every single day for several hours at all hours of the night…like myself at times lol. Now without further adieu…

    (friend=black/myself=blue)

“I’m only finding myself logging on Monday nights to cap myths and that’s about it”

    “Geez man, that’s sad dude"

“There’s just absolutely nothing for me to do anymore”

“Except pvp you fraidy cat xD!”

    “I refuse”

“Well, did you level your chocobo?”

    “There’s no point.”

“Did you cap your seals at 50k?”

    “Not interested, it’s meaningless.”

“Do you still have achievements to do?”

    “Equally meaningless.”

“First off (insert name), there are 8 ranks available in the GC register that will be coming at a future date, probably soon.”

“Also, chocobos will be improved upon, there’s already talk of duty specific instances centralized around using them.”

“Also, pvp will only get better, and it’s pretty balanced atm. If you don’t want to get to rank 30 in the “boxing ring” I can understand, but getting started would be wise considering frontlines”

    “What about jobs?”

“You know I only have WAR left Drain xD! And this stuff doesn’t interest me.”

“Well…there ya have it But there is still plenty for you to do…technically.”

    .....DEAD SILENCE

I was also going to get into finishing macros, possibly discovering new ones, farming rare mats from enemies in open world and treasure maps, helping some friends get past the titan choke point, organizing inventory for vanity (cuz let’s face it, DF and PF will be dead for a couple days when vanity hits xD), actually finishing coil because he hasn’t (he does have 4 zeniths though and been to t4 I believe), but it seemed all moot at this point.

It then became clear to me that he wasn’t truly a “completionist”. In fact, I was. I am consuming every piece of content the game has to offer. I’m into my chocobo, vanities, mats from open world, achievements, my GC, ex primals, pvp…you name it.

I guess I just wanted to share a story about how this particular problem finally affected me personally. I feel bad for my friend. I have looked at my subscription and time in game as a future investment. I understand the game will be expanded, I understand there are small details implying future additions, I understand the “boxing ring” is far from the pinnacle of future pvp, I understand that achievements could very well be converted to “skill points/battle points” or what have you, I’m preparing for GC expansions…..I wish he understood this too. He was always a lot of fun to screw around with.

So, if you’re looking for me in game, I might be standing next to a bot mining earning my keep the old fashioned way, out in open world leveling my chocobo, level syncing to some random fate helping that poor adventurer who is about to die, murdering healers in pvp, or even in Ultima farming accessories.

See you in Eorzea with tears for the bored, poo

As you can see there are some great ideas in this thread, but due to posters posting off topic, derailing the thread, and harassing one another, it was locked. There are 182 posts as of now, but in my estimation over 20 of those were deleted for violations.

What kills me is people rushing to endgame as fast as possible only to complain there's nothing left to do. How about slow down and enjoy ALL aspects of the game? Instead of measuring your "server first" E-peens.

For me, it's not that there is nothing to do, it's that there is nothing fun to do.

Everything in this game is a boring grind.

If you enjoy clicking on a node 5 times repetedly every day for hundreds of times, or clicking on 1-5 in logical orders while a progress bar goes to 100%, or killing the same dungeon every week in 1 hour, or rerunning the same content 10,000 times because theres nothing else to run, then this game is for you.

And when one doesn't enjoy ALL aspects of the game because they are bleh and boring, then what?

The only thing in this game I find fun is raiding, and theres only one relevant raid to ever run, so for me this game is destined to be a 1 night a week theme park.

I hate when people tell me to level an alt or go craft or do pvp because...

    1. I hate PVP in MMO's ALL OF THEM, Hammer, Wow, this, GW, GW2, etc I hate all the PVP I just don't like to PVP, I like PVE Raid Content
    2. I don't enjoy crafting, nor do I have a need or reason to do it
    3. I like the jobs I have, I don't want to level an alt, that is not fun to me.

Bottom line, I don't appreciate it when people tell me theres stuff to do. Of course there is, there is always stuff to do. I could just go wash some dishes or vacuum my house.... But I play a game to have fun, not to work. The only relevant content in a video game to a player is the content that is fun. If it's not fun, what is the point, it's not a job, we don't get paid to play, so it should be fun no?

Do you not understand that a sizable portion of this game has capped jobs that transferred from 1.0? If we were to slow down, we would have to go at a snails pace.

That is something out of SEs control, you were bound to be bored having skipped 95% of the content in 2.0.

Even people who started in 2.0 are getting bored. Unless you want full i90 on every single class there is little in this game worth doing. Most people only want or need to play 1-2 classes at endgame. Even super casual players I know are full i90 in at least their main class. This game offers nothing but vertical gear progression ATM, so hardcore or legacy or casual... Everyone I know is getting bored.

Yeah 2.2 gives us new tiers, but its not changing anything really... It all just looks different. If there was nothing else out that might be okay but even if TESO is subpar I would rather play the story in that than a reskinned version of 2.1 that will be meaningless in another 6 months in 2.4. FFXIV is just not giving me any compelling reasons to play it over something else... I have almost no emotional investment in the game as everything is so easy to acquire. Easy to pick up and easy to put down.

I totally get that. I feel the EXACT same way. I'm just trying to get a sample from people experiencing this problem who have found a few things to do in game that may not be as fun as their preferences, but still fun enough to give some sort of sense of accomplishment.

To me leveling your chocobo, capping gc seals, etc is somewhat fun, but I understand this isn't the case with everyone.

Something I seen in the world section was "Selling titan....FOR FREE! Inquire within " That seems like something that could be rewarding and helpful to people on your server at the same time.

    Thanks for your contribution bud

We don't want players to have to spend a lot of time getting to level 50. The reason behind this is that we believe the game up to level 50 is basically your tutorial. The real game begins from level 50. - Yoshi

OK, I'll bite again, with a thought. Take it as you will:

You know Minecraft? The video game? It is wildly popular. It makes a lot of money. There is no goal. You make the game. Often referred to as a "sandbox" game. GTA is another good example. Why would I bring this up?

Instead of only picturing an MMO as a set of numbers to crunch, imagine it for a second as a sandbox game. You don't have to farm tomestones today, you can instead explore specific parts of a map and kill enemies around there for no particular reason. You are not restricted by the bounds of tomestones and events. Instead, you are given a realm to do whatever you want, whenever you want, with whoever you want. There are plenty of examples of people taking advantage of this idea, by making their own content. There was a house maze created on one server, PF challenges/help runs, player-made contests.

The point I'm getting at is, not only do I think there is enough content in general currently, but an MMO is a self-sustaining form of relaxation and gameplay. Of course, you don't have to think this way if you don't want to. But at the end of the day, people seem to be having fun, and you aren't. That's a lonely feeling.
