Blurry HUD / UI when upscaling

After buying a new laptop, I've been tweaking the game's settings to match my new screen. The resolution is better, but the screen itself is smaller than my previous one, at only 15". While I am planning to buy a larger screen in a few months, I'll be playing on this until then.

The result it that all the HUD / UI elements and menus ingame are very small, with tiny text and icons. It becomes straining for the eye. So I did a few google searches, and found that I could upscale all these elements by selecting them and pressing ctrl+home. And it works!

It is indeed better now, but I noticed right away that the graphic elements, like skill icons and health bar, become blurry when upscaled.

Is there some setting I can do to make them sharp, or is this a limitation of the UI scale function as it is right now? And if so; will it be adjusted down the line?

You're just making it bigger (ie blowing it up) so you will lose resolution inherently. Maybe they'll release a method that has different sizes of text and window pre-made to specific sizes to retain clarity, but for now your options are either squinting or using a fuzzy UI, unfortunately.

The only real solution to this is for the icons to have a larger native resolution and have the "100%" default essentially be a lie to the player; anything lower than Maximum would have to be downscaled, or the script for resizing ui elements would need different size-native assets for each notch and would need to call for them. This might slightly increase the load on ram, vram, or CPU depending on what FFXIV uses to render the GUI, but it would certainly require a partial coding re-write, a new class of icons, bars, and fonts for each scale % notch, new fonts/text for all ui elements at each scale % notch, and of course space on your pc to fit 5 more sizes of every UI element in the game.

In short, I doubt there will be any fix for this incoming.

You can increase the size of the HUD in two ways. Either by running the game at a lower resolution, or by increasing individual elements to either 120% or 140% their native size with cntrl-home or by pressing the Right Stick (R3) button. If you run the game using borderless window mode, the only way to change the game resolution is by changing the screen resolution in Windows.

Instead of 1920x1980, perhaps you should try running the game at 1600x900 or 1280x720, the HUD elements will be larger and perhaps any blurred elements will be less noticeable.

Thank you. I set it to 1600x900, which is what I had before, and now it's fine.
