WHM Protect Question.

So I recently started playing WHM and have it about ~I75 and have noticed in CT that the protect icon on player list is sometimes different. The honeycomb displayed will be tighter and if I cast over this the honeycomb display is more spread out. I think this has to do with protect potency? Something about more VIT in my gear gives protect and stoneskin more defense or something? Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? Can't find any info about this and I'm sure I'm not the only one that has noticed it. Any help would be appreciated. TY

If it looks like 3 larger hexagonal shapes, that is proshell (WHM protect that enhances def + magic def) from the ability you got at lower levels.

If it looks like more (maybe 8 or 9) smaller hexagonal shapes, that is just protect, from a SCH that only buffs defense. You should always overwrite that with your better protect.

edit: Idk if there is any difference in the physical defense from either protect, or if there is even anything that affects potency. But that "proshell" is a level 16 CNJ only trait.

Are you maybe confusing Protect with Enhanced Protect? Protect is usually from people cross-classing it (e.g. SCHs) and looks dull, whereas Enhanced Protect comes from CNJ/WHMs with the Proshell trait and looks brighter/larger.

stoneskin nullify 10% dmg of target max HP ( cross class ) while WHM get stoneskin enhancement that make stoneskin nullify 18% dmg of target max HP

so also overwrite stoneskins not just protects with many hexagons icon

the tighter one should be casted by other non-whm players, maybe sch =) only whm/cnj can give the enhanced protect (a trait named proshell). And stoneskin too, whm/cnj have Graniteskin which can absorb 18% damages of the target's maximum hp, and other jobs' stoneskin only got 10%.

This. As someone who leveled WHM first, seeing the dull protect icon quickly became one of my biggest pet peeves. >.>

OK ya sorry I had it mixed up switched to sch and added protect as cross-class and casted it and it's the tighted protect icon and whm has a more spread out icon. ty for the help. never played sch, played smn instead.

I won't bother explaining the differences, since all the posts above me have already done so, but I just want to reiterate that as a WHM, you should be handling all the prots and stoneskins for your group unless there's another WHM with you. Even if the scholar in the party prots and stoneskins people, just override it with your more effective version.
