WHM Protect Question.

I won't bother explaining the differences, since all the posts above me have already done so, but I just want to reiterate that as a WHM, you should be handling all the prots and stoneskins for your group unless there's another WHM with you. Even if the scholar in the party prots and stoneskins people, just override it with your more effective version.

I get annoyed at SCH who decide to start buffing the party as I'm working my way down the list with Stoneskin or if I asked for a min before buffing. Your SS and Protect are worthless when I'm buffing, so stop it! Learn the differences between the classes already! (I've had too many geared SCH in post-50 content say that their buffs are as good as mine...how do these people not read?)

The main question has already been answered but I just want to add some extra info.

Protect gives a +15% defense bonus. This is true no matter who casts it. They are always equal. The CNJ Proshell trait gives their buff an additional +15% magic defense boost. The difference in the symbol is for whether the mdef boost is present.

People are rarely looking at buffs/debuffs but as a healer you really should. :P

Of course I look at buffs (and by extension debuffs), but the changes in the icon are minor and I've always cast Protect on the team at the beginning of a dungeon or boss fight regardless. Knowing the difference isn't something that comes up often and when it does it's inconsequential since a good WHM should be casting Protect if only to renew it.

Scholars please, look to see if there is a whm in your group before you cast buffs, it just leads to confusion and people getting crappy buffs.
