Error 2002

So, I can't play at all. I always ALWAYS get Error 2002: "The lobby server connection has encountered an error."

I get the feeling it has something to do with my router, as I moved and got a new one shortly before resubscribing a few months ago, and haven't been able to play since. Cancelled my sub for a few months, then resubbed today to find that the error still persists.

Is it a firewall issue? Do I need to forward some ports through my router? If so, which ones? I saw a post recommending that I forward ports 55296-55551, but I'm extremely hesitant to try that. Forwarding a few ports is fine, but opening up over 250 ports in my firewall is a terrible idea. Is there a smaller range, or a few specific ports, that I could open to solve this issue? Otherwise I'll just have to play over a VPN and deal with the extra latency.

What's odd is that this worked on my previous router without port forwarding or anything else like that. I'm pretty sure uPnP was disabled too, although perhaps it wasn't and that's the source of the problem. Still, if this game actually required port forwarding, you'd think it would be mentioned a bit more often in the forums and elsewhere, right?

I'm tempted to just blame my ISP.

EDIT: Playing okay with the Spotflux VPN, but that's just a workaround and I'd really like to know if there's an actual solution that doesn't require me to put a massive hole in my firewall.
