Very true, it looks like they did some things just for the sake of "Being different" trying to find that magic button that made WoW the abnormal hit it is today. Thankfully after the last letter Yoshi seems to have a good grasp on where the game needs to move forward to suceede.

planting stuff in your house was fun also in FF11. Maybe instead have a backyard to plant stuff? Be able to grow crystals and food base stuff for cooking.

maybe expanding on these two ideas.. maybe the retrainer could be involved with these processes?

Whether it's self owned, linkshell owned, etc..I'd really like to see FFXIV meets The Sims when it gets to creating your own housing area.

The only issue with homes existing in the world as it is would mean they need enough "Realestate" for people to place homes, and also make the wilderness are far less "Wild" place. The game as it is now wouldn't have enough room to accomadate realworld player housing.

Having it as an instance solves alot of possible problems with server load and whatnot as well. Ultima Online is the only game I have played that had open world housing and it only worked because they made massive and empty maps just for people o slam houses down on. The world felt more like a patchwork city than it did a wilderness to explore.

This was one of the great defining attributes of FFXI. I believe that it would create alot of diversity to the market and ecomomy adding in items that are crafted by DoH.

I loved building a house of my own and i spent alot of time in FFXI customizing it over and over all the time.
Bring it back Yoshi! You know you want to!
