SE really needs to pull that "we have to be different every FF game mentallty" it just ruined them so far.
they need to re-use alot of stuff from ffxi and introduce differently. MOG house should be a instance like it was but you can see the out side of your house park your chocobo there and train it, do additions to your house for status effects and storage space.
I don't mind if they make the single player systems unique for every game; however in an MMO there are some basic general things that are more or less required. Trying to reinvent the wheel doesn't seem to work here.

In a recent interview that Reinheart was kind enough to translate for us, they actually mention this. They state that they realize that the game is missing basic fundamentals, and that they're working on introducing them. As to when, I don't know. Probably going to see a lot more stuff being added once the battle system updates are finished. That and server issues.
Also, I love the idea of the thread. I also hope they end up implementing player ships, as they mentioned they would last year. Again, I think they said they're looking into it, just can't yet. As for Guild Housing, I know EQ2 did this pretty well, as did CoX. The headquarters in CoX were pretty fairly customizable. And you could upgrade it more based on how much fame/notoriety your guild had.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

With The Sims being up to version 3 so far, I feel like customizable housing should be a fairly standard concept by now. Maybe not to the same breadth and detail that The Sims goes into, but with enough options that every house doesn't feel like a carbon copy of each other. In a recent interview that Reinheart was kind enough to translate for us, they actually mention this. Because whether or not you enjoy customizing, there are plenty of people do. And it's an amazingly innocuous time sink. Look at the hair style threads and the amount of customization they'd like to have. Various styles, colors, lengths, highlights...
Between hair, housing and Triple Triad people would hardly have a reason to leave the cities (or the game). Unless it was to get more cards, or to power up those cards.

Oh trust me, I love customization. While I never got HUGE into making my original XI MH super-awesome, I still enjoyed putting something in there from time to time. And if the housing/guild housing was somehow linked to Triple Triad, you're right, I'd probably never leave unless my LS was doing something XDWith The Sims being up to version 3 so far, I feel like customizable housing should be a fairly standard concept by now.
