My PS3 Imploded - Wat Do?

So last night in the middle of warming up for a Titan run, my PS3 went totally off the reservation. Classic YLOD (60 gig launch model) followed by fan failure and a rather terrible stink of burnt bread. She was totally FUBAR, and I had to physically destroy the system to get my ARR install disc back.

I'm picking up a refurb PS3 for cheap on the way home tonight. Is there anything special I'm going to need to do to get back online with FFXIV in a timely manner? Or just install > log in > update?

Thank you for any tips or advice.

access is based on account, so logging in won't be an issue.

If you have a security key, you will still need that.

I don't think the new PS3 will remember your username, so hopefully you remember that.

I don't think there's much of anything else to worry about.

Would've been cheaper taking it to a shop to fix it. Don't know all your details but we would've charged 50 for service and 30 for the fan.

You might have to "deactivate" the old PS3 to transfer your licences for DLC, PSN bought games and possibly the licence key for FFXIV.
Check your regions Playstation website support guide for info.

I had to deactive my PS3 last year before sending it back to the shop, basically it desync's your account from the PS3's hardware ID (as you can register 2 PS3s per PSN account) so you can keep bought/downloaded/licenced key'd content.
Re-sign in with your PSN ID on the new PS3 and make it your primary console - sorted.

Again double check on the PS website for your region for instructions.

If you can get passed this biggest hurdle then you good......remembering your PSN and password. Countless of friends and family had forgot the password or both. Going to have a hard time if you didn't use current or accessible email address.

It's easy to forget these things because of the auto log in. You really never have to log in again until.... It breaks

Also, there's no reason to leave the install disk in the system. That's just additional wear and tear on the drive. Once the client is on the PS3 you can put the disk away for good.

Can we just have a moment of silence for our fallen hero, this guy's PS3. Launch model? Not a bad run, this guy's PS3. Not a bad run at all.

    ^ this.

Once you have the game installed onto the ps3 HDD you can launch it without the disc. On your new ps3 you will also need to use the same PSN account from your old ps3 (can recover this easy using account name/email/password) since the SE account can only be linked to 1 PSN account.
