I had a YLOD not too long ago, myself. Sent it in to Sony, got it refurbished for $125. Been running like a kitten since. Still, to try and keep it from happening again I did get a couple external cooling fans for it. Well worth the investment to have a launch PS3. The new ones have been gutted so badly as to not even be worth the time to look at, much less think about.
Yeah I lost my old fat ps3 recently too, it's heart breaking. Especially with the ps4 out. Be sure to call Sony to deactivate the old one, takes 2 sec. There customer service is really friendly. You would have to look it up but there is a way to turn it on, something about a hair dryer. You will have to redownload everything. Like everyone said, you might have to change your password, but the only thing you lose is your loadouts which you have to do all over.
You probably gonna need to reassign your crossbar, gear sets and macros. Not sure though, maybe ps3 saves this configuration in your ps account unlike the pc version.

^^that's right. He needs to setup UI settings, macros, skill bars and item sets again from scratch. All of this info is stored on PS3 locally in a file. I lost it once after yet another teleport crash to find out this bitter truth. :P
