I would totally sign up as a LNC tank because I know for a fact that's viable..

For what exactly? Lancers also don't have the threat generation needed to stay above healers if they have to do any multi-target work (or other DPS for that matter) let alone the damage mitigation for any of the non-story mode dungeons.
