    More smn questions (primals)

So I have gotten into the swing of being a smn lately, and have been practicing in CT, and begun doing ex garuda. My dmg is good, but little things are driving me nuts.

Maybe I am making this up, but when we are about to pop spiny, I hit heel to make my pet follow me into the bubble. However, when we all go to take positions in the corners right before garuda and sisters spawn, the pet doesnt continue to follow me, so I have to hit heel again. Shouldnt my pet just follow me the entire fight as long as I heel once?

Also on garuda, my garuda egi constantly gets hit by the feather aoe things that put the dot debuff on you. Garuda egi dies so quick to this. I have to spam sustain to get her through it, and god forbid a healer esuna/leech it. What do you do to avoid this? Place the egi somewhere?

I havent attempted titan or ifrit with smn yet, just because I am not sure where to place my pet. Any positioning tips for pets on primals? I cussed at my pet a lot tonight.

You should have heel (and Obey too) keybound to an easy to access button, and then always click it when moving from things like that.... I spam it to make sure he responds.

About Garuda EX feather aoe.... Well I don't think there is a way to avoid the possibility of it, but as she is doing her attack, pop sprint and run right after the attack. Don't stay and wait. My Egi almost never gets hit if done right, but sometimes you can be unlucky.

As for Titan EX, you can simple place your Egi to the far right (do before the fight begins), at the edge and keep him there for the rest of the fight... He won't die, and after Titan reduces the size of the arena, they Egi will stay out in the air, out of harm.

one thing that helped me with my new smn was to make the heel/obey macro. if the egi ever goes wonky just select a target and hit the macro.

and fyi, as a healer, we cannot see your pet(and their debuffs for that matter) on our party list. so dont assume that we are being jackasses by not caring for your summon. however, as a healer, i have better things to do then keeping your pet up, so if its in my aoe... great. if not, qq on you.

If Garuda gets windburn from the feathers you should just ask your healers to cure it if you're on a voice chat. If not then just let her die and resummon, you aren't using swiftcast much on Ex anyway.

This might be a little tedious for you, but in Garuda EX I always Steady>Heel when Garuda jumps (after Aerial Blast) and when switching between Chirada and Suparna. Putting her on steady actually makes sure she will a) follow you through the falling plumes and avoid unnecessary damage when you hit Heel once and b) not accidentally start attacking the spiny while still on Obey (HIGHLY UNLIKELY THIS EVER HAPPENS BUT PET AI IS STUPID SO BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY). I just mostly do this because I've heard nightmare stories about people hating when SMNs join the fight because many just don't watch what their pet is doing and I don't wanna be the one to cause a wipe.

But yeah, if you have the time or willingness to do so, I'd just make a Steady>Heel macro to make her come straight to you and not stop for anything until you throw her on Obey again.

Garuda - Spam Heel when you move so it moves with you to avoid the dot.

Titan - There's a little slap of rock you can Place it on and leave it for the entire fight. Its to the left of Titan...I'll get take a pic once SE fixes the servers and we can log back in today.

Ifrit - It can stay in the middle for most of the fight, just spam Heel when Ifrit does the jump-line-thingies that you have to run around the circle to avoid. When you run, it will follow you.

Wait, we're talking about EX primals, right?

In general, people leave the bubble way too late and that’s what gets them hit by feathers. As soon as you kill the spiny, place your pet in the middle of the bubble. Once you’re in the bubble too, hit place again and wait for blast. As soon as blast hits, click and place your pet wherever you want it to go and it should be well out of range of feathers by the time they fall.

For titan, I usually put garuda at about 2 o’clock (titan being 12 o’clock) and a few steps outside of the inner circle. Once there, you can basically ignore her for the rest of the fight aside from maybe the occasional sustain. For ifrit, the best place I’ve found to put garuda (or selene/eos if you sch too) is a couple steps back from ifrit’s 8 o’clock. That should keep her out of the way of most eruptions and that should be far back enough that she won’t eat ifrit’s frontal attack when ifrit turns to face your second tank. Heel it when ifrit does his rush attack (there’s nothing for garuda to attack so when you hit heel she’ll come without any issues), then place it at the same position when ifrit lands.

I'm sorry but these responses are all incorrect, when in primals you should already know where the party and your pet should be. You should use the position command to place it out of the ways of feathers, plumes, landslides, and other abilities. Wish I could find a video to show you.... but I'm unable to. You will need to get used to this movement command for T5 and future content I'm sure so use this as the primary method for placing your pet.

When I play smn I just hit heel right after Garuda does her reckoning as Im going to my spot. Garuda egi never gets hit.

On titan just place it to left, right outside edge of inner circle. No problems outside of hitting a sustain once or twice just so u dont have to resummon.

On ifrit I used to place it in the middle, but now i just keep it on me. When we're running back for eruptions i hit sustain right after the last eruption. When ifrit goes Nascar, Garuda automatically follows me to the outside. Never had to hit heel on that part.

As others have said, use both Obey and Heel when Garuda (primal) jumps, while also helping your group spam down the Spiny with Ruin 2. As an extra safety measure, I like to keep pressing Heel while running in... even though logically it should be working already. But, considering you don't need to do anything at that point anyway, there's no reason not to.

As far as windburn... Garuda's feathers will only hit around where she jumps, so as a caster, I like to spend the rest of the vortex phase (after razors have been AoEd down) near the back of the circle -- as far away from Garuda (primal) as possible. Then, when she jumps, there is no risk of me getting hit. Garuda-Egi, on the other hand, might get hit unless you move her or tell her to Heel the second Garuda (primal) jumps. If she DOES get hit, keeping an eye on her, and Sustaining her right away will make it possible for her to survive... tedious, but it's better than her dying. Of course, there aren't a lot of situations to *safely* use your swiftcast here (shadowflare can damage the spiny so I avoid it), so it's not too much of a catastrophe if she does die. Hopefully your party don't be suffering any deaths, so at least they won't need your SC for Raises... right? :O Really observant healers may even toss her an Esuna/Leeches if they see her get hit, but usually that is only when no other party members were hit (as they will be top priority).
