I actually like how two-dimensional the crests are. They are easy to distinct from afar. So basically, I'm opposing the idea of having something too 3D and embossed/glossy that's hard to read. On the other hand, the choice of crests we have now is awful (except for a few decent symmetric ones that we have), as well as the choice of colours which is horrid (and I'm specifically referring to the yellow+[insert colour] combo).

Glad to hear the devs are looking into it, I'm just stressing about whether they'll do it right.

I apologise if someone else mentioned this, but here goes....
Somehow the least painful option, from my point of view would be to have a crest base (like the shield we have now), of customizable colour (more colour options than now), and a huge mass of patterns (for background) and stamps that go over those that we can mix and make our crests more unique.

To break it down:
1. crest base (shield base and/or something else - customize colour)
2. background/1st stamp (goes over base, simplistic larger pattern)
3. 2nd stamp (goes on top, could be various icons: crown, sword, eyes, bird, 2 spears, chocobo head, and so on, limitless options)

I think this would give enough variations for making our crests different from each other, provided the number of patterns/icons is a large one. It would also mean the devs or GMs wouldn't have to bother with checking if there's inappropriate creations.
