Help! Only PS3 FFXIV drops weapon stance when using item?

I have lived with this annoyance (and the indignity of my fellow players telling me I'm dropping the ball) for a while, but never thought to ask if it was different for anyone else. I don't know if this is a PS3 thing, a setting on my side, a glitch, or what.

When I am in a fight, if I need to select an item (like in the boss battle in Haukke, or in Arum Vale needing to eat a Morobol Fruit), my weapon stance drops in order to interact with the item. This happens whether I use the target selector and X the item, or if I use a mouse and right-click the item. Stance drops as soon as the item is used.

The result of this is that I have to get back into weapon stance (and if I try to do so by clicking L3, 80% of the time, it just selects the enemy but does not change stance, requiring a cancel, then stance change again), then re-select the enemy, and by then the agro has dropped.

As a Tank, this is a disaster, and leads to all sorts of recriminations (most of which I feel are justified).

Just now, failing Arum Vale, I asked if anyone else was having the problem - no one else was, nor had they ever heard of it; we had to abandon at the first mini-boss.

I've made do with it until now, but I cannot get past Arum Vale with this issue.

Most of my friends are on PC, and they say they've never heard of this. I've Google'd it and cannot seem to find any reference. Then again, until just now, I assumed this was something that happened to everyone, and that I was just a loser for not being quicker at getting back in.

I opened a Support Desk case, to see where that goes, but I'm hoping someone here has a faster answer.

Does anyone else see this issue? Does anyone know of a fix?

    Thank you!

You don't have to be in the stance to attack. When you use a skill, you automatically go into the stance.

OK, I did not realize that, but it does not help since the cross-bar is changing back to non-weapon when stance goes away. I'll tweak settings around that and see.

However, can you tell me if you're on PS3 and if your stance drops when you do something like eat the Morobol Fruit?

You can config the controller button that L3 should only switch the stance.

System Configuration - Gamepad Settings -> Button Configuration
    Change L3 to Draw/Sheathe Weapon

You can also draw the weapon if you push L1 + R1 at the same time (beginning with L1)

Yes, this is normal. The character put the weapon away, hold the hand to the object and a cast bar start.

Weapon being sheathed or not has -absolutely- no effect on anything. Even if you're mid-sheathe-animation and use a skill, the skill will work. So... if you're just not wanting the weapon to sheathe for whatever reason, just go to Character Configuration->Control Settings->Character and unselect the '[X] Auto-sheathe weapon when not in battle.' option.

Yes it does, But only if you set it up that way. You can make it so only certain hotbars are available when sheathed or in attack stance. Going by TC posts it sound like he has his bars set this way ,and with No attacking skills on his sheathed hotbars. Though he could just select enemy then initiate auto-attack by pressing X to go into attack stance.

Though the only benefit to using that option is not having so many hotbars to cycle through. I just got used to manually selecting other hotbars(by holding R1 to pull up selection hotbar) instead of cycling through them, Since I started with Arcanist and cycle button turns into pet bar button with pet out.

Disabling Auto-sheathe weapon when not in battle.' option.
Wouldn't help, because is not auto-sheathe when not in battle but auto-sheathing while using item, which there is no option to dis-able.

@Highlanderx & @Estellios - exactly my problem. Settings from an early hotbar recommendation I've just "had" since low levels. Re-evaluating this whole setup now ... :-)

BTW, it seems that the PC version lets you keep several hotbars on-screen at once, which would make it so mucheasier to switch between - just mouse-clicks away I assume?

Yes, but then you have to deal with juggling the gamepad and mouse/KB. It does work if you get used to it, I have a friend that uses long cooldowns and items this way. I mostly use the extra hotbars to see the the recast times on abilities that are not on my main bar.

I would honestly just recommend not messing with the combat stance based bar-switching and instead use a manual combination to go to your out-of-combat bar. If you absolutely must make your out of combat bar your default bar, I would just stick the stance-switching command on it (it should be in the general or main commands section of the action menu) or disable the lockon function entirely as suggested.

FYI for Highlanderx, you can disable the pet bar in the config which I highly recommend. You can assign pet actions to your regular hotbars like normal skills.
