Keep up DoTs, use Aetherflow stacks, have pet on Obey.
You might have to specify what you feel you're doing badly on content-wise because, generally speaking, it's hard to fail as Summoner if you just follow those 3 guidelines.
XI: Zeroblade, Titan Server
bio 2 - Miasma - Bio - Fester - Contagion/bane - ruin
Weave your off GCD abilities like fester, rouse/spur, enkindle, etc in whenever you use an instant spell like Bio, miasma 2 or ruin 2. Or when using swiftcast for shadowflare. Also get swiftcast.
If you're going to be standing next to the enemy, right click to auto attack when you can too.
Have garuda on Obey, swap her targets around if you need to prioritize something else

His guide is pretty nice. I learned one or two from this person.
Don't take it as holy scripture though, just broad strokes. Most people would recommend Bio2>Miasma>Bio, and despite what the writer says Energy Drain is not a sin.http://shinra-ffxiv.guildwork.com/fo...ow-to-summoner

Even if you follow all guides etc, you'll still have to think as a true Summoner (Arcanist).
You need to find out when to use which abilities in specific content and the only way to "learn" that is just running lots of different content and practice. I'm always finding myself to form the strategies in dungeon runs and communicate with my team, depending on it's composition - granted, my party is usually pre-made so they don't mind if I experiment with my skills first, to try out specific spell combinations.
I know it's a lame reply but that's the only advice I can give ya, without repeating all rotations and stuff.
Thats why i said you can learn one or two, you can take a good example from that person. As for me i'd use Miasma first for DK T5 only..
Question.
Why do you not use Bio I before the others?
Since it has more potency you're dealing more damage from the get go, and once you're done with your rotation, it'll be about time to reapply Bio I again anyways. You can actually probably get another one in before Raging Strikes ends. I could be wrong but I always felt like this was a good idea. The only benefit I found to using Bio II first was its long duration, so my DoT's ended at around the same time and I didn't have to focus on reapplying Bio I at a given time. But when focusing on damage, I will apply my DoT's with the highest potency on that DoT, and go in descending order. The only deviations I take from that are when I'm being lazy and not properly paying attention, and when I'm trying to apply Disease before anything else, but generally I'll already be in position with Miasma II, although not always and sometimes I'll be too far away so Miasma I will hit faster. I also deviate as Scholar, for trash mobs, I'll open up with Aero generally, only for the instant damage. Although from a total damage standpoint it's still more efficient (imo) to apply Aero later because it doesn't matter where the instant damage takes place in the chain of skills.
If you use raging strikes you're using contagion. Bio is instant so after it applies you can throw out a fester without messing anything up, or a rouse/spur or something. And while it has more potency per tick, its only by 5 and it has the lowest duration.
You don't keep up a rotation as SMN, you re-apply as needed. doing the standard lets you re-apply miasma and bio, ruin then do Bio2 without clipping too much. Also for baning you have optimum timers using the B2 M B order
Pretty much what everyone else said. Probably the only thing I could add is making use of Ruin II while micro managing your Pet since you can't issue a command while casting. Also make sure your Bio sticks before using Bane or Fester.
