What is the Vanguard Free Company?
The Vanguard (VG) began as a linkshell on the Selbina server of FFXIV 1.0, which later became Ridill. As time went on, our community grew substantially larger and more active, with multiple weekly events and a large number of players always willing to help one another with whatever they needed. By focusing on building a quality community of members, The Vanguard grew and grew even as 1.0 came to a close.
With the transfer to FFXIV: ARR, we are once again actively looking to expand our FC & LS by recruiting players with similar goals. We don't consider ourselves an exclusively endgame guild. Rather, we consider ourselves a group of friends that, most importantly, enjoy playing together and having fun no matter what we're doing – whether that's taking on the Binding Coil of Bahamut, doing our umpteenth run of Spamdapor Keep for the week, or even helping someone through Storymode Ifrit.
If you're looking for strictly scheduled events with mandatory attendance, expectations that you already have 100% knowledge of all the instances in the game upon joining the FC, or competing for world or server firsts, then the Vanguard is likely not the home for you. (Though we do wish you luck!) However, if you simply want to have fun and maybe a few laughs while learning or farming instances and getting stuff accomplished at the same time, then we would be more than happy to welcome you to join us!
The Vanguard is welcoming players of all experience levels, all jobs, and all levels. We welcome Legacy, returning, and new players of the game equally. Additionally, though most of our players are based out of NA (specifically in the EST/CST timezones), we also are more than happy to add to our already existing handful of players from all over the world.
What is the Vanguard Alliance Linkshell?
Because we were established in 1.0 when players could belong to multiple groups simultaneously, we decided to create a linkshell in ARR to keep that spirit alive and thus keep in contact with friends that joined other Free Companies at launch. We also use our linkshell to keep in contact with other players that we've met along the way that we've enjoyed playing with.
Linkshell membership for FC members is not mandatory, but highly encouraged. Likewise, for those that wish to be involved in our community but have found their perfect FC already, we also invite you to join us whether it's just to chat, ask for help when you need it, or fill a spot when we're in need of someone!
What kind of events do you do?
As previously mentioned, we don't consider ourselves a solely endgame-focused free company. However, that is not to say that we don't do any events or endgame at all. Quite the opposite, actually! Events that we commonly participate in are dungeon runs, spiritbonding parties, primals, relic runs, and now the Binding Coil of Bahamut. We currently have one group that spends Thursday – Sunday evenings learning the turns. We are hoping that with the expansion of recruitment efforts, we will be able to start up additional weekly Coil groups. Similarly, with the release of the Crystal Tower in Patch 2.1, we hope to be able to fill most of our alliances with VG members!
How do I join the Vanguard?
If you are interested in joining either our free company or our linkshell, the easiest way to do so is to contact one of our officers in-game. Officers most regularly online include Nazura Azure (leader), Isra Asandri, Ephemeral Nights, and Emperor Kaye. Likewise, all of our members currently have invite privileges for the time being. If you cannot contact an officer, try asking a regular member for an invite. (Though make sure you get the right VG – there's three!)
We also have a fully functional website for our guild, located at: www.ffxiv-thevanguard.enjin.com.
We highly recommend signing up on this site either before or after you join the FC. It contains our FC rules, event calendar, chatbox, announcements, forums, and our Mumble information.
If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to leave a post here, contact an officer in-game, or submit a question through our website!
