I've never been in a group that did it that way.
Sure there is and no, I've only wiped on this boss maybe once. In all of the groups I've been in, the MT takes the boss to the end of the row opposite the entrance. The tanks then spread the skeletons out. There's still plenty of room to do so without them getting to close to one another. I'm not saying your strategy is inferior, as it's likely the intended one, but saying "There is literally no other way to do it" is literally wrong.
I haven't either...except that I always thought to myself that this would be most effective...because it seems people tank the boss on one of the paths. Doesn't a skeleton spawn right where I always see it tanked? Isn't that what we DON'T want?

This looks like a pretty common sense strategy and certainly seems like the way the developers intended it to be beaten. Thanks for the tip!

Also never done it like this.

Actually there is. Take the bone dragon all the way to the end of a row (usually north) and just keep skellies near the south. As long as it's not the same platform it's fine.

Changing the position of the boss (a really inefficient position at that) doesn't change the overall strat.

This is the same strategy IGN has on their Wiki guide to ARR.
