New lvl 50 SMN, maximizing pet DPS guide?

Hi, so im a fresh lvl 50 SMN and i really enjoy playing the job. But my pet always seem to die in fights and I'm not sure where to place it to avoid damage but still do max damage also what stance is the best to use?

the figths i plan to take on as a SMN is titan HM for my relic, coil and EX primals.

    Thanks in advance

Edit: Oh.. and i play on the ps3 is it anyway that i can switch between the two hotbars i have access too when i dont have my pet out using the L1 button? When i have my pet out now i can only switch between hotbar1 and the pet hotbar

    Guard, Obey.

Where to put them depends on the fight. 9 o'clock on Titan (HM and EX) seems like a good place. ~10 o'clock for Ex Ifrit.

But really, not many fights have the potential to kill your pet, they have massive damage reduction. If you see them taking damage, toss out a Sustain.

Stance? Assuming obey is a stance: Obey. That goes for both scholar and summoner.

Garuda is easy to micro. Let it wind blast all single targets. Aerial Blast clumps of targets. And use contagion when you need it (though this is more maximizing your dps).

In coil, there is little positioning you need to do.
turn1-> Dont have it in front of the snake and dont have it behind the snake.
turn2-> Mostly dont have it right next to the orbs.
turn4-> Depends on how your party does it. Typically where the range/healers stand, it should also be. But as long as it isnt in front of a dread, or sandwiched between soldier&knight it should be ok.
turn5-> I place it once in the center of the arena and leave it alone. Again, depends on your team strat though.

Garuda Ex -> The occasional heel as you run from falling feathers and the first mistral blast.
Titan Ex -> I place it either on the right or left of titan. Landslides dont usually hit it, but occasionally I throw a sustain.
Ifrit Ex -> Completely depends on your party's strat. If there is a safe side, place it there. But otherwise make sure before ifrit charges that you heel the pet so it takes zero, or at most 1, charges to the face. Sustain when in doubt.

No, but I believe it can trigger tail swipe.

It doesn't. Takes reduced damage from it though.

I don't play on the ps3 myself (I use a controller on the PC) so forgive me if this information proves inaccurate. Assuming the controls are the same, you should be able to hold your shoulder button and press any of the shape buttons or d-pad directions to scroll through your 8 crossbars.

If you are switching between just 2 bars, there is also an option for an extended cross bar (I believe that's the name of the menu option) that you can set that operates based on which trigger you pull first. For instance it can be set so if you pull R2 and then L2 it will pull up the right side of crossbar 2, and then if you press L2 followed by R2 it will open up the left side of crossbar 2. You can set either combination to activate whatever side of any crossbar you so choose, letting you use 2 full crossbars without actually needing to switch between them.
