I am wondering what skills should i use to craft a hq item?
I been reading up guides but it would be really nice to see an order on what skills to use.
I like to know how to craft 40/40 a non star craft up to a 1 start craft.

So far (highest craft job is 35), I have been using Mithrie Menethil's method which has been working really well for me. It's essentially this:
Inner Quiet > Great Strides > Observe til good condition or only 1 stack GS remains > Standard Touch (repeat til quality is up) then finish with standard or careful synthesis.
Basically what you are looking out for is the good condition (the light glows red). If you get good condition before GS and SH are up, use tricks of the trade to refund some CP. If good condition comes up and GS & SH are both applied, THAT is the ideal time to use a touch. If you get to 1 stack remaining of GS, you HAVE to use a touch or you will lose the effect of GS. If you are running low on cp and or durability and its time to finish, pop rumination to refund a ton of cp, pop waste not, then finish.
With your available skills, probably something like this:
Inner Quiet -> Waste Not -> Steady Hand -> Hasty touch x5 -> Manipulation -> Steady Hand -> Great Strides -> Ingenuity -> Advanced Touch -> Great Strides -> Advanced Touch -> Careful Synthesis x2.
You can use Innovation on no star craft in place of Ingenuity. Tweak it around to fit your current stats (Craftsmanship, Control and CP). This requires you to have 302 CP and maybe around 320 Craftsmanship. The higher your control is, the more quality you gain.
Edit: I meant to use Hasty Touch x5 since Basic Touch requires 18 CP.
Thanks for the tips I put most of classes to get most skills but guess I need to increase them.
I know most guides out there say get your crafters to at least 15, but I would say get them all to at least 21 - because then you can start using Great Strides, which with higher control, results in massive leaps in quality.
That's for cross-class skills. Great strides can't be cross-classed. There's a version for each craft, just like the touches. Below 21, there's really no need for Great Strides. Above 21 and obviously you can use Great Strides version of that craft. There's no need to raise a craft above whatever level you need for skills, whether it's 15 for most cross-class or 37 for Steady Hands II or 50 for Byregot's Blessing. All level 15 skills are not equal.
I just want to add that an excellent condition is always followed by a poor condition, so while it is tempting to use a touch when the condition is excellent, there are drawbacks:
The chance for a failed touch is significantly greater on excellent condition, than even on a good condition - Excellent should always be considered a gamble. Whilst Excellent WILL result in a huge leap in quality, you definitely need to use it when steady hand is up, and I would even go so far to say don't even bother using a touch unless you know you would get 100% without it regardless. If I get Excellent early in the craft, usually I just hit observe. If I'm really desperate for the HQ I might sometimes take the gamble, but bear in mind that depending on the complexity of the recipe, a failed touch might screw it up completely.
hey guys, just read through this thread and i find it very useful. just a question though, so does this mean that i would need to level up all classes for crafting so that i can get all those skills? if yes, do i stop at 15 or do i have to go to 21? thanks!
You don't have to get all classes up for skills. Some skills are more important than others. I'd suggest to get these levels: Carpentry 50, Blacksmith 15, Goldsmith 15, Leatherworker 15, Weaver 50, Culinary 37, Alchemist 15.
Innovation at Goldsmith 50 and Comfort Zone at Alchemist 50 are nice to have. Armorer's skills are totally useless.
im currently at carpentry lvl 15 and i cant level up any faster because i cant make HQ items. so should i level up the other classes first and get them to level 15 and then continue carpentry to lvl 50 then? thanks!
