It can be very grind, Its very much about rare drops, repetitive type content, Doesnt hold your hand, and it has some randomness and depth to it....yet it sells like crack cocaine and you see constant ripoffs of it (which mostly dont work out well).

It just goes to show that those kind of aspects of games still work for people...lots of them...Yet games like this fight for the opposite short term, easy peasy, hand it to me on a silver platrer style of game.
In Japan, yes it sells well. I would have said "how lazy non asian players are", but didn't want to start a debate over the asian vs everyone subject.

However out side of japan, MH does not do that well. in fact, compared to other games, MH is pretty much a no body. A player base of 1 million or less outside of asian countries is not very popular(especially after capcom's big FU to it's older playerbase). I played MH for years, and was very fond of the game, but I cannot begin to tell you how many people refused to play such a great game simply because they don't want to deal with a grind fest. Most games of and RPG nature produced in non asian countries have either dumbed down their grind process, or just eliminated it all together. They just make things easier and easier. Even MH has gotten ridiculously easy as capcom has tried to appeal to the casual gaming crowd with it(as well as nintendo owners).

The problem is, the days of games being hard and very popular has gone out the window pretty much in favor of easy holding your hand games(in non asian countries, just to clear it up). It's a Miracle that Dark Souls did so well, despite the fact that barely anyone knew what demon's souls was. I'm not saying easy games are a bad thing, we all like to sit back and just play mario or sonic or whatever to relax, I'm saying its a damn shame that most players don't want to work towards anything. Those of us that do work for things, are few in number compared to them.
